This used to be a great source of knowledge and entertainment
I used to laugh my #$$ off just read all the posts
You think I am bitchin? There is just so much love here!
I think really it`s more of a problem, that people who claim to care about the forum, just up,and walk away-Instead of sticking around, making topics, joining in conversations etc--You always find the same people crying about the type of topics, how up to date the forum software is,etc.---If you really care about something, you stick around, talk to people, and add to the flow,Doesn`t really matter if people agree with you ,or not-That`s why they`re called debates, and Lastly what roofer here doesn`t have a thick enough skin, that they can`t handle some criticism,As far as I`m concerned,One of the most interesting things about the forums is seeing/hearing about different ways of doing things, and why it`s done that way where the particular roofer is from
Bottom line,quit your bitchin,and contribute
Kage,If you have the url of the pic, just paste it in the reply box,and then highlight it.click image in the boxes on the left here, and your pic should post,of course the pic has to be published on the internet already for it to have a url.

Well if i knew HOW to put a dang pix on here...i would..(scracthing my head still)
I am documenting the job we are working on pretty well right now and intend to post a weeks worth of pictures on it at a time. We may have a heck of a lot of picture by the time the job is finished, but everyone will see the progress!
Pix will make things pick up again.
Old School
I know your harmless because I have been here through thick and thin but someone that has'nt been around forever would not get that from some of the posts here
tinner666 you are right
I used to laugh when we were doing a project and I would look over and see the house next door with a flat patio that was shingled by the home owner and probably never laeked but if we did it it would'nt last through one rain
BUT Steve! You know we are harmless, so why be afraid to post? Just teasing. I think that if we would all just post pictues of the projects we are working on, that would "say" far more than anything we could write. I find it fasinating to see some of the work that Mike does in NZ. The attention to detail he shows impresses me. We do a lot with slate and tile, and I know I cut my teeth on shingles about 50 years ago.
I DON'T know everything, but I do recognize superior efforts.
I think that more pictures is the answer.
Webmaster Steve Said: I agreeI can see how some new blood would be hesitant about posting after reading some of the topics in here, there a lots of opinions and more than one right way to do things, just because someone doesnt do something your way doesnt make them wrong.
for example the whats good enough topic where it was said that if the manufacturer doesn't require 30# or 6 nails per shingle why do it
when I had my company I did it. I put 30# on every residential roof wether tear-off or go-over (never know it could save a leak if a large tree limb or some other object penitrated the shingles)and I used 6 nails/staples per shingle. Half the time if I had a parcial box of fasteners left over on a job by the time my crews got to the next job something happened to those fasteners any how so why not just give them to the customer they were intented for Its not hurting the roof.
but that doesnt mean you are a bad roofer if you dont do that its just the way I did it.
just my opinion
Yep. Many ways are the right way!
( Many ways are the wrong way! )
I agree

I lurk.
Hey Roofguy, I agree with the changing over the years but I check it out anyway. Definitely some personality clashes but the elders with their wisdom intercept and keep balance. Been here since '03 so I've seen them come & go. Some of the charm is gone, it is definitely a lot of roofing talk but it is a roofing forum. Years ago there was a lot more joking and family stories happy & sad. I miss that and some of the people. With me NOT being a roofer my perception of the roofing talk is probably off. I sometimes think twice before posting or starting a post because of the backlash you may get but I say " OH what the hay". Probably some here wish I would think a third time.   PC
egg Said: Here, let me rack them up again, Tim. That one didnt break quite right.
Sometimes the equasion is more complicated than it appears on the surface. Sometimes the goal is to win the pool game, and sometimes it is to just smack some balls.
The point I was making is that when pack mentality is allowed to flourish, by its nature it attracts followers not leaders. Well that's ok if the leaders are indeed leaders and not just a few clowns who're only slightly more capable leaders than their followers. In the latter case the whole pack is collectively weakened because, not only are they the weak being led by the slightly less weak, but they've lost the one virtue they had going for them: individuality.
I saw that happening here, and it's sad because this was once a pretty cool site. But those weakly "leaders" mixed with those who have an agenda of revenge based on their own personal failings, and before you know it those who have a lot to contribute, find it a liability to do so.
I can't afford that liability, and as a more general rule, I try to not associate with people who need to build themselves up by knocking someone else down. They're like a fishbowl of crawdads trying to escape over the top...everytime one just about gets over the top, another one claws ahold of his tail and drags him back down with the rest.
I pop on here about every 6 months to see if it's changed. So, make your snappy retort good enough that the topic will stay fresh for 6 months, and maybe I'll see what you say. :-)
