This is 40ft. high. I brought in a 60 ft. high reach to bring materials up and down. I'm going at it alone. Completed 18foot in two days. I tore off another 12 feet today and had a lot of rotten wood just past the chimney to repair. I installed 12 more ft of the built-in gutter. I go home one tired boy but I'm glad to have the work. Should take about a month to complete

I have no intent to "...go gentle into that good night." Google that or accept my credit to Dylan Thomas. To each his time. But not without a fight.

A couple of months ago a customer for a big repair wanted a 7 year warranty. At first I thought nothing of it, it isn't a a competitive situation and I can use top materials. But then it hit me, I'll be 64 years old by the time this warranty runs out.

How did you address warranty issues with your past customers CM?

The thing I find most frustrating about aging is the loss of strength. Certain things I've been able to do for years get harder. Theres a way to slip in a tile in a repair one-handed where you lift the underside to clear the batton as you push it in place. I no longer can always do it left handed, which is maddening especially when you need your right hand to hang on.

I am 58 and it gets harder every year. I still do a bit of roofing and a lot of selling. It is all fun. They will kick dirt over me when I quit!

At 51 I can't fully retire. I still have 16 year old twins at home. I have to leave the work I love because my body wont let me continue at the pace I need to go to support my present lifestyle and home. I need to slow way down. My back is killing me. I have arthritis in my toes from being on the roof all my life. the list goes on. I would love to work for someone just to impart my years of experience to some young upstarts.By moving to Ohio close to my Daughter and my wife's sister we will have a chance to re-tool and change directions. Being debt free opens up a lot of possibility to me. Been selling of my shop tools. Now that a hard thing to do after 35 years of collecting them. Just keeping the best of everything.

Is Copperman's decision to leave the roofing industry subject to a vote? ;)

I say that he be allowed to leave only after instilling his knowledge into a minimum of two persons per state (myself being one of them). :side:

Yes there is a reason. 55 feet in the air. No one can even see the roof unless your 2 blocks away and then you can only see the top 15 feet of the peak. So yeah I just went with it. Those pans are behind the chimneys and it threw off the layout. I would of had to put a short pan in behind the chimney to match seams. Was not worth the effort. No birds complained yet. :silly:

Good luck on your retirement endeavors, CM. I wish I knew 6 years ago that aches at 51 entitled you to retirement. ;) One question, not trying to be critical just wondering, is there a reason that the horizontal seams don't line up?

Finally finished the big one 5 weeks to tear off, make and install and paint. By my self with the exception of my son who cut and back primed all 244 panels and made all the clips. He helped bend the pans also. Not bad for a 16 year old. This could be my last roof! I sold my house and I'm moving to Ohio. Look out Mike H. Don't know what I'm going to do out in Ohio. Short term I'm collecting Unemployment. Paying cash for our home in Ohio so I wont need a lot of money to live on. At 51 I need to change direction. All the old war wounds are getting the best of me. Sometimes I can barely get out of the truck at the end of the day. Wonder if Lowes needs me?

Went there 6 years ago as part of a cruise stop. It was absolutely awesome! Also stopped at Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Saving for a return trip! Enjoy and be safe!
