Here's a new topic that won't last long but it's something that's been on my mind and mind you, I'm not bringing up any political discussion with this whatsoever. So this is my beef...

I've been seeing more and more headlines using these two acronyms in the last few years. I really dislike these terms. They always seem like code words for gross bodily functions, not two of the most prestigious and serious functions of the federal government. You can argue that they're just letters from a 26-letter alphabet but I'm not going for it. They're ugly and they're sloppy, lazy, and therefore in my opinion disrespectful.

Yeah, that's what I thought it was, too.

From here on out I want to be known as: Tehm. :-)

I always wondered what CIAK meant. I figured I'd wait for someone else to ask - it only took 4 years. :-)

Thank you for the correction. Wendy's is correct. My bad. The point was the phrase. It has become an all-purpose phrase questioning the substance of an idea. CIAK has many definitions. I have Sicilian relatives who could not pronounce my name " Chuck" from script. CIAK was the best we could do and works very well

My first grandson will be born next Tuesday: Boone Kemp Adams.

I'm unamused that - in my bizarro little world of amputeedum - that stands for Below Knee Amputee.

For that matter.... what the hell is a CIAK?

Whatever you do, don't go to a BK and ask "WTB", coz they might point across the street at the red headed girl named Wendy. ;)

About 12 years ago, I was contemplating getting out of roofing and finish out my career doing something else. An architect friend of mine, suggested it would look good on my resume' to be certified as a LEED inspector.

I obtained a sample test and took it. Most of it was incredibly easy, you just had to have a basic knowledge of construction and use common sense to determine what used the least amount of energy in different scenarios. Plus, you could pass it with only getting 60% right. I got about 75% without any studying. But virtually everything I missed involved not knowing what various acronyms meant. There were about 8-10 that I would have needed to learn.

But a couple of big projects came through for me at that time, so I never pursued it and never had to brush up on energy-related acronyms.

LOL True that!

Want to see a customer's eyes glaze over, just toss around terms like: EPDM, CPE, PIB, SBS, APP, IRMA, PVC.

I'll tell ya what really burns my britches. It's disrespectful to the state, to the citizens, to the majestic bird, to the art of cooking in hot oil, aND to the man that traveled around the country showing people that his special blend of 27 herbs and spices was truly special. Long live the Colonel.

Acronyms in general are a bit overused , they dont bother me too much....except if I was trying have a conversation with a specialist, like an aviator if he kept talking to me using the acronyms that Tim mentioned. Then it takes on a certain type of rudeness....yet still in his comfort zone/ language he typically uses. So does constitute being rude? What to do? Constantly interrupt to ask HUH? Walk away? Ask Miss Manners? Fire back with guitar lingo? ( lingo and acronyms the same concept?)

Anyway, Ive always had a hard time w/ POTUS & SCROTUS took awhile to figure out they meant on a day to day basis when perusing the political scene

Agree 100%. I'd never use those terms around non pilots. Just as I don't use the term BUR around non roofers.
