I was a member of MRCA some years ago. I got what I needed from it at the time but just do not see the value as a small residential contractor.>>>

But Frank, you've got just the right level of "grayness" to be the roof consultant who gets paid big bucks to guide the DIY crowd past their many screwups!

By the way, I'm running out of "original Death". Time to kick things up a notch and start the "After Death" bottle. :P>>>

I would join a few if I had a real company and employees. As it is, I wouldn't get anything out of it. Almost ready to retire anyway. ;)>>>

We are a member of the APCHQ (provincial construction contractor association), ACQ (a government mandated contractor's association), the BBB (for what's it worth - very little), the local chamber of commerce (we're the only roofing company locally that belongs). We are NOT members of the "Maitres des Couvreurs du Quebec) which is the provincial (commercial) roofers association. We don't belong to the NRCA (wrong country), or to the Canadian Roofers Association (nobody around here knows what that is). Of the whole lot, the APCHQ is probably the best value in terms of continuing education for both owners and employees, lobbying help, and support such as financing, warranty programs, and owner-operator support such as insurance, volume purchasing, etc.>>>

Long time member of NRCA, MRCA and OhioRCA. Other business related org's I support, NFIB, NFIB Safe Trust, National Write Your Congressman, local Chamber of Commerce, National Right to Work Committee, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

Belong to a number of hobbie and special interest organizations as well. Never been the type that wants to suck off the hard labors of others without contributing to the preservation of my own interests as well.

Beat this drum many times on here, with little effect. A few joined. Don't have much tolerance for excuse makers, so I don't talk about it anymore. I see it like voting. If you aren't gonna vote, don't whine about the politicians. If you aren't going to contribute to the interests of your industry, don't complain when it's not heading the direction you want it to go.

Now that you're in a position of influence at NRCA, hows'bout doing something about the NRCA stance on immigrant workers. Don't know about MAC Roofing, but we've never hired immigrant workers, don't plan on it, and that's my one bone of contention with NRCA. I think the association is part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. Oh, sure I understand they don't want undue responsibility being placed on the contractor for verification, but I don't believe that's the real crux of the issue. I think the real issue is that many contractors, particularly large ones, WANT the cheap workforce, and offician NRCA opinion, as directed by those leaders, is coddling to that desire. It's just plain wrong, imho.

Of course I won't allow that one issue to be my EXCUSE for not maintaining my membership. Y'all know what they say about excuses, but in the eye of the average roofing contractor it puts a black mark on the NRCA that overshadows so much of the good they do for members and non-members alike.>>>

Mac I don't know or even think I would have much to add. My roofing activities are so minor now. I still have my state lic active. My business now is mostly on the insurance side. Way much less stress and fun like the roofing business was back in the day before Andrew. Thanks for asking>>>
