You are so right. It is still 32 squares though. I would be happy to install 16 square in that amount of time, but they don't make them like that any more. All valleys and hips and vents and such.

32 sq in 7 hrs. is an outrageous pace, but after seeing the roof, that is not your typical 32 sq job.

I still have to strip off the end section of it. Another company is going to do the framing and repair the inside of the building. a tree smashed the end of the building and punched a few holes in the side that I roofed. It was easy to do and the shingles didn't slide when you stacked them so you could put them on. Not too steep and not too flat. Perfect.

Things definetely hurt but I am able to "think" ahead and get more done doing less. At some time,. even that will start to fail me. I turned 59 in July, and am hoping to work out in the pool this winter and lose the weight that is holding me down and be ready for the spring. We have a lot of work lined up right now and more is coming in. It should be interesting.

I will take some pictures of the job I put down in the next few days and post them.

I took out the trash today. Well, I put the bag in the back of my pickup and drove to the dumpster.

"As far as the "discount" for the slate job, I don't know. I have seen so many people screw them up that I tend to charge a lot just to let them see how it should look when a professional does the work." You'd have to have been there to understand this one. College Professor, good with carpentry, fair on roofing, knowledgeable, wanting to learn, on the roof with me taking notes, learning tricks of the trade, previous repairs with felt and other stuff 'stepped in', no tar, and in great condition. Slates were i the rear yard, but I carried them to the truck out front for sizing, etc. It was just one of those things. I only made about $200. an hour, but it seemed like the thing to do. Want to bet money on future referrals from this job? You know how that works. :)

Natty, I will take a picture of the roof and post it for you. You can be the judge. As to the "why", I was busy and had other things to do the next day. After I finished the shingles the second day, I put on the ridges and the ridge-vent and cleaned it all up. That took a couple of hours more because my knees were extemely sore.

Tinner, I am too heavy too. I am working on it and want to get down below 200#'s this winter. It comes off slower than it goes on I am afraid. If I get the weight off, I am sure the rest of me will feel better. As far as the "discount" for the slate job, I don't know. I have seen so many people screw them up that I tend to charge a lot just to let them see how it should look when a professional does the work. The funny thing about slate is that the work comes to you and you don't have to chase it. Much better than trying to advertize.

I'm gaining weight John. I need the exercise, and I love it. And I know you would have loved this job and client. He had a ladder set up, and slates on the site. I had to give him a huge discount for that! :)

That sounds like more work to me. I hate to carry things anymore. I try and let the machines do the work. On this job, I set the bundles exactly where I needed them and used them up just before they were in the way.
