wywoody,
On the chance that ye might be sending some participants a tissue to cry in, might ye please send me a small piece, that I may clean the spittle off my screen?
Hey, I say welcome to everybody that wants to be on here. But if someone puts out a line like this;--in fact something i learned from Jim a few years ago-made me an extra $2400 net- this past week----so there is value here-if you ignore the morons, LOl -- and then someone else affiliated picks up on it, embelishes it and then repeats the same insult to the site,"huge freaking waste of time", I reserve the right to comment on it and question what's up.
But if you're not trying to sell us something and I'm believing your defense that you're just socially inept, welcome. You'll fit right in.
wywoody Said: I was a little curious just what this Jim and Steve show was about. So I checked out Fine Homebuilding. Turns out Stephens a contributing editor that writes about roofing. You do a good job, there Steve, everything I read was far superior to that little paragraph of corny sales bait that Jim is quoting from you above. I also commend you for not repeating the name of the site in your response to Jims setup. So both of you come clean, just what is it youre REALLY about here.If you guys had been around here a little longer, you might appreciate the irony of pitching your Laurel and Hardy canvasser act on the departing thread of Roofguy. Right after he mysteriously reappeared here just as he was launching his new product for roofers and left as soon as his pitch ran out.
Actually, there's nothing to come clean about.
I don't know who roofguy is. I don't know anything about anything your insinuating. I have no idea about anything that we are supposedly pitching.
Perhaps you are too jaded and you've forgotten that this is a discussion group. I thought we were supposed to "discuss" things here. If that's problematic, perhaps I've landed in the wrong forum?
As far as repeating a name...such as Fine Homebuilding. I really don't understand your concern or paranoia. It's a trade magazine that has a forum. At this point in the development of the internet EVERY trade magazine has a website and most have a forum so I don't understand what your concern is.
Regarding Steve and my participation: we actively participated a the fine homebuilding site for ten years, along with about 500 other people. Then, the culture changed when threads like this one began to dominate. Neither of us are particularly interested in tit for tat childish threads. I permanently dropped out of fine homebuilding because of the cultural change. Stephen might still be participating, I don't know. I just assumed that since both of us are in the roofing business, we, and our discussions would be welcomed here.
Maybe not.
This is getting a bit corny.
;)

I sniff a whiff of something
Stephen Said:i would also like to saparticpiation in these forums is often a HUGE freaking waste of my time- while at the same time the things I learn directly and favorably impact my bottom line- I know the things I learned at the other site jim referred to made me an extra 6 figures easy during the time we were active there-in fact something i learned from Jim a few years ago-made me an extra $2400 net- this past week----so there is value here-if you ignore the morons, LOl
Best wishes all,stephen
I think your post pretty much illustrates how dead this site is. Of course, I'm curious about which specific bit of information lead you to netting a cool $2400 last week. Because we've exchanged a significant amount of information over the years, I'd be hard pressed to even toss out a wild guess. When you first posted this statement, my instinct was to congratulate you and ask you about the details. Then, upon second thought, I decided that I'd wait and see if anyone else was interested and curious.
I wasn't surprised to find out that no one cares to make a simple inquiry about something that might be of value. I also wasn't surprised to find out that there would be more negative posts and more personal attacks instead of attempting to find out something of real value.
I'm going to agree with another of your statements that this is often a "huge waste of freaking time". Luckily, there aren't near as many posts as we used to deal with at fine home building and therefore, it's only a very small waste of time each day to peruse the posts here.
Anyways, Stephen, I am very happy to hear that you netted yourself few extra bucks and proud that it was something that I passed on. Do you want to briefly give a few details to jog my memory. At my age, I might be able to relearn a lesson and put that same amount in my coffers too LOL!
Look, it is not secret Jed and I throw barbs back and forth. I for one am tongue and cheek with most of this stuff . It is a disfunctional family here . Like a little brother who continually screams and fusses every time he is teased .He needs his diapers changed. It is all in good fun for me. Jed I think your all right . Full of your self but then again most are . I'll continue ad nauseum in the style that sets you off. You don't know me and from all accounts don't want to. That is alright by me. B) :) B) :woohoo: :woohoo:
Three things: thick skin, thicker skin, laughter!
Well, I myself, would never abase myself, by contributing to detrimental diatribe on a site like this.
:silly:
Gerry, the following is from the SPF Saturation thread, and comes at the end of one of Tim's posts:
"...I approach it more from a standpoint of the normal locking horns that goes along with selling and competing...."
Motivation is always key. By that I mean that understanding someone's frame of reference and orientation towards a sphere of activity has (or ought to have) a huge impact on the nature of any subsequent response. Most of us aren't competing & aren't selling. The stakes are very very low, unless you properly weight the immense reward of connection to parallel selves out in the world. Our motivation is to share ideas and experiences merely for the sake of sharing and maybe to see a little part of our views in print. When I disagree with something here I have absolutely no interest in locking horns. I would get nothing from it. For me, here, it would be an absolutely useless pursuit. I've won arguments and lost arguments. I have won arguments when I was wrong and lost arguments when I was right. Arguing is a thing unto itself; just ask any trial lawyer. For the knowledge and comradery I'm after, debating is fine, disagreement is fine, but arguing is a waste of energy and fighting is just a form of self-abasement.
I have also been on this site for some years now. I stumbled on it by accident and quickly became addicted. I remember taking a lot of things personal and nearly obsessing over some of the topics. Actually lost sleep over one issue that now escapes me. Kinda wierd really but at the time it was new to me and I didn't quite grasp that some of the anonymous people were only trying to cause a stir and that I should not take the crap to heart. Now I just read and try to learn and occasionally contribute. I ignore the garbage. I missed how this feud got started but it sounds like someone took something more serious than I would have any more.
There's always going to be sniping done on ANY website where the posters "know" each other (via the site). If it's all in good taste I think it's great because that's human nature. I think we would all agree that we come here to contribute, not fight. Let's keep it that way.........for now anyway ;) ;)

I agree with Old School... grow up or shut up. I come here to learn, relax, see what awesome work Vaa is posting, or the incredible copper work or the problems others have found and conquered. I also come here to help if I can or take notes on what problems others have solved. Yes, sometimes I laugh at the absurdity of the posts and sometimes I shake my head and wonder if I am reading posts from pre-teen idiots.
Why anyone finds the need to put someone down for either their questions or their observations is beyond me. No one has to like me or anyone else that posts here. If you don't like what they say... IGNORE THEM! If you can teach them something or offer a new way to do something... then have at it! Life is way to short to spend time in petty arguments that only foster aggravation.
With that being said..... Let's Dance! (_/_) (_|_) (__)
