3.5" rain yesterday & last night. Hallelujah!
E-Z going Father's Day today. New waffle maker and waffles for B- Fast. Picked peaches w/ Sam and having steaks w/ fresh peas from the garden for dinner!
Happy F-Day All
About an inch total. It rained hard for about an hour and then drizzled for about 4 hours. the drizzle soaked right into the ground. Good stuff. We arre still about 6 inches below normal.
Great! How much?
Yes, we finally got some rain.
looks like 2 more in last night. Did it cross the Big lake to you O/S?
Thank God! Rain last night and it is supposed to rain most of the day too. a light steady rain after the heavy downp;our last night. It is probably too late for the crops, but it takes care of the fire hazards and the lawns can rest too.
We got about a half an inch today in town, but my wife said only about 10 minutes here at the house. Better than nothing for sure.
Did not plant the melons rd.....it was getting late in the season, then a huge cherry tree fell right on that area of the garden after we got it all prepared! I still have not cleared it all out. Got my chain saw bound into the trunk last night. Had to take the bar off to get it out. The chain is still stuck in there.
Same here OS, as I have heard. I had one local farmer tell me us and some of Minnesota has the best crops in the country. I am told by others it is carnage both north and south of us
Seems I have not left my local area since Mem Day. Just up & around Hwy 49 & Hwy 30.
Drought ain't over but we finally got some rain. I could see it falling 25 miles across the valley
I have been talking to a architect in Scotland and it has been so wet over there they can't get into the fields to work the crops. He is building a round building and putting on a slate roof and has been having a hard time getting the weather to install it too. Too much of anything is bad. We sure need more rain up here though. It has been sooooo spotty. 10 miles away there is no problem, and on the other side of the state two weeks ago they had floods from the downpours they had.
At the end of the year, it will probably turn out to be "average", but we qare sure suffering right now.
Sandy? Good for melons!
I also dug some holes around the property yesterday
That got old quick. It's hard as chinese algebra up on this hill. Your earning every bit after 3 inches deep.
Also: That humidity is back in full swing. The dry heat was a nice break.
Good O/S. Sorry you did not get more. More heat on the way too. Maybe 100 on Tuesday
And the bad news.....I dug some holes around the property yesterday and even after the rain, that dirt is hard and dry just a couple of inches down.
Yes it is sandy, but still.....
Twill, we finally got about 1/2" yesterday, and it was a gentle rain so it went right into the ground. I am thankful for anything and though we need more, it was a lot better than nothing. No more rain is forcast for another week or so.
Just had some rain pour down. About 1.5" so far today. Coming your way O/S.......
Officially in my neighborhood we are not in drought yet but we are getting crunchy. I must say though judging the corn, it is looking good. We had a great spring of intermitent rain and warm days, planting was in early. Sure glad I'm on well water between watering the flower & vegetable gardens and now my new baby concrete patio I'd be in a pinch of a water bill. Have been through drought periods before and my well has done well. PC
Hi Guys,
We are the exact opposite too much rain, farmers can't get into the fields without doing damage, we have already had the full (normal) rainfall for July.
Side effects are we can't make hay or silage (winter cattle feed) animals that should be getting fattened on the land are back in the winter shelters being fed the little that was saved earlier in the year.
Winter wheat doesn't have enough sun light to properly develop, which means very low yields per acre are expected.
Roofing doesn't really matter because so many homeowners are not having the work done anyway, cash is a very tight commodity here at the moment of course as always its easy to be a busy fool.
What a picture LOL, at least we have our health and food on the table so we can be prepared when the good times roll again.
Have Fun,
Peter.
