House about 10 down from me getting the roof replaced by a crew of illegals. Prolly an insurance job, who knows? Roof less than 10 yrs. old and looked real good from the road

Except where it leaked at the bottom of a valley where the fascia tailed into the roof.

Maybe a $200 repair to fix the leak and and a little more to fix the damage, if any.

But heck no, let's replace the whole damned thing! We'll show them dumb Americans how to work :side: :side: :side: :silly: :woohoo:   :side:

OLE Willie

That makes sense Alba since illegals have been doing nearly all the work for the last 10-15 years everyone else gave up.

The only thing residential companies are doing is making sure there is at least ONE legal immigrant to write the check to. Then he pays the illegals in K.A.S.H. :woohoo:

Alba

I don't know about the residential but the commercial roofing companies are enforcing e-verify in Alabama and they are having a hard time trying to find qualified roofers.

Right after I finish fixing the leaks and the client is putting the check into my hand is when I will mention the wind turbine is whacking out the ventilation system and needs to be removed and also the gable vents closed off.

We will sign the contract for this additional work before I leave the property and I'll be back in a few days to collect for the second time. :)

I will be remembered as the good guy who straightened out the mess and them the idiots who created it.

Thanks Tom. I could get by pretty good at $240 sq if I never had to buy any tools, or trucks.... If I never had to pay the phone or gas bill....

I could get by really good if I never had to pay an insurance premium or the price of shingles were still $33/ sq

Tim Adams was right a few years back when he said the Wal Mart model is coming.

I'm already learning how to be stupid. "Is that Hail Damage?" used to be I'd say, "do you want the truth?" Now I just lie....."why of course it is"! :S

Thanks Tom. One needn't be too bright to see what's going on.

Just driving by and casually observing I saw: The laminate shingles racked There is a turbine vent with the ridge vent My guess is that the gable vents are still open too

All in a day's work :S

Mitt the Loser Romney called it "creative destruction". We in the roofing trade are seeing that now like the rest of country has.

TomB: "Just this last summer, I lost a $700K & a $400k jobs that if it hadn't been for the "restoration" outfits we'd have done the projects."

Connect the dots Tom. Who owns the Ins Co and which school/ sorority connection will matter most? As the money to rip off American Households flow through the insurance, which old school buddy, lawyer/ investment friend is going to be there to help split the spoils w/ the Ins Co CEO's?

In this age of gilded entitlement, when Mom & Dad want to see a return on Jr's. 4 yrs. spent @ Mardi Gras & Daytona, the Mom & Pop Roofing Industry is defintely some low hanging fruit.

EQUATION:

Premiums+ false claims+ illegal workforce+ even higher premiums- any kind of legal payroll - any kind of proper contractor insurance+even higher premiums- legitimate contractor overhead + Ever Higher Premiums = a nice payday for someone who has made the right connection .

Trade knowledge need not apply and leave your ethics, community and patriotism at the door

As I stated in my Roofing Thesis upon graduation from Kindergarten, the Ins Cos. find it much easier and far far cheaper to pay hundreds of thousands of underpaid workers than to pay a few Edumucated Lawyers to do the right thing and fight dis honest claims.

And then of course, raise premiums for the rest of honest sap homeowners.

Nothing better than collusion between dishonest industries and corrupt government B)

Odumbo and his Republican Cronies also want another 40,000,000 illegal immigrants to hurry up and get here :(

They want to pay for the Government Good Times, Social Programs, Corporate Welfare and the endless War Machine w/ $9 an / hr wages, most of which will go uncollected

Same old song and dance. Laws were passed but not enforced.

Illegal crews began here in the late 90's and were the majority by the early 2000's. Today they are the "vast" majority.

Mexican's come to the United States and take up most of the trade jobs. Many other types of jobs are outsourced overseas to other countries. Meanwhile I have nephews in their early 20's that if their lives depended on being able to get a half way decent job, then they would just have to die.

They can not learn the trades and then advance like I did because they can't get a job to gain any experience. Meanwhile the Mexican's all have work, do not contribute to the system and take the money out of the US and back to Mexico.

On top of this Odumbo wants them to pay for the older peoples health insurance! Yeah, right!

Yes indeed! Illegal workforce & "insurance work" go hand-n'-hand - No doubt about it. Always has.

The easiest/simplistic approach would to be simply "when in Rome....." Which a lot have done just that.

Some of us are just too darn principled for our own good....so-to-speak.

Just this last summer, I lost a $700K & a $400k jobs that if it hadn't been for the "restoration" outfits we'd have done the projects.

They're smooth operators. Plain & simple.....I s'pose I'm just too "old-school", and too lazy, (or could it be that life's just too darn short for this nonsense?), to jump in the game-play the games-jump through some more idiotic hoops, throw ethics out the window, etc.....

JMHO & $.02

Willie: I thought Alabama passed some law last year that was supposed to curb the illegals?

Mexicans crews are a recent development around here, the same time the insurance game ramped up here right after a storm. About 4 years ago it all started w/ a little bit of hail....and 109mph straight line winds.

September 27, 2013 at 12:39 a.m.

OLE Willie

I saw an ad in the local newspaper a while back that read "Looking for Hispanic roofing crew".

Whatever happened to Equal Opportunity Employer?

There are still some Storm Chasing outfits in my area and I've noticed a couple of them offering $79 roof tune ups and the like but all they really want is to get on the job and suddenly discover "Hail Damage" so they can pursue the home owners Insurance company.

In this part of the Country, if I see a roof being replaced and its NOT a hispanic crew, I'm shell shocked! Doesn't happen very often anymore.

I think it comes down to the what the Restoration/ Insurance Industry wants: Replacing perfectly good roofs-------altho they may be energy eaters it don't matter, cause the illegals and the ins. industry does not address that anyway
