Man, they are killing us here in Texas. Material pricing went up today and freakin Exactimate went down. WTH is that all about. Just no money in these roofs anymore. I may buy a boat and start fishing!!!
From another forum "Reference: Xactware publishes prices as close to the mid-point of the market as possible. As a result, generally half of the providers in each market will be priced higher, and half lower than the cost shown here. Due to the structure at which different roofing companies operate (traditional sub-contractors vs. roofing sales organizations) roofing costs quoted by local providers can cover a very broad / large range of prices."
Like I've said before, you put YOUR prices into the program. You can't bid other peoples' prices and remain in business.
Make your own spread sheets, know your material suppliers, get real. Don't allow yourselve to be ruled by idiots. It's a battle out there.
I know the prices are nuts, I have been out of roofing for 4 years, I am astounded by the prices. Make your own market. Know your overhead. Do good work , it will work out. with love PC
Hundred bucks a sq for materials and 85 for tear off and put down...whats the problem? Here the labor'll go for $55 sq.
If you don't like the prices, don't use Xactimate for your proposals. Can it be any simpler than that?
Or, just add a surcharge.
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Let's see. "stormers", "restoration contrctors" or whatever these people call themselves, can't sell or price anything until like tinner, says, a storm comes along and then you expect a 3rd party to do it for ya.
They spend their off storm time beating up their own market and then they can't understand why Exactimate, the Ins. Cos or some 3rd party won't fix their business for them?
Inflation in the real world, inflation in roofing material prices and deflation in contractor prices has been going on for a few years. I am sure that the locals here have already lowered their prices in anticipation of the next material price increae. More business for them!
Perhaps the publishers of Exactimate and the Ins. Cos. have taken a look at the who they are dealing with and are feeling like they are getting hosed by people who are.......giving work away for $185 per sq.
Plug your prices into it. Who's bidding? You, or the adjuster? If it's the adjuster, tell him to bid it so and install it so, while you go elsewhere and get your price.
