Well GTP1003, I feel your pain, were in the same boat hanging on only by our fingertips. I know the old saying "Only the strong survive" but we are sinking faster then the Titanic. We have a repair & maintenance dept. but we seem to be getting the same answer "I'll give the building back to the bank before I sink that much money into a repair or replacement". From what I recently read in "Roofer Contractor magazine" companies are going to be spending less on roofing in 2010. I don't know what the answer is we keep trying to re-invent our company but with each day that our doors are open we falling further in debt. I really wish I had some good advice for you but it is very hard to stay positive right now. Good Luck

Hang in there; right now is that fork in the road where the guys who don't make it turn left.

Just some wandering generalized advice. A lot of roofers are hurting right now, more than not. Doing the same thing you've always done isn't going to get you anywhere that the other guys aren't heading too - you don't want to follow them off a cliff. Think outside the box, shake things up, differentiate. Maybe now is a good time to get heavily in the roof leak repairs business - buildign owners are hurting too and they're more inclined to spend $3500 on repair than $35,000 on a new roof. The best part is, there's little competition and the margins are great!

Thankfully, we've seen our business surge a lot in the last few months as people look for an angle and a cost advantage.

I think most guys a on the edge. I have very little work coming in. 3 weeks the phone has not rang evan with all the bad weather. I'm lad I cold see it coming and got rid of most of my debt. still each month is a challenge to cover expenses
