Here are some pictures of a job I worked on recently. We don't do many torch down roofs anymore, but it was too cold to do a S.A. roof this time of year and the guy wanted his roof fixed. Mission accomplished. Look how many nails the previous roofer put in the top of the one sheet, and with only 1/2' of coverage before the shingles! Whew, These are tough times to make a living! For the ones that can't roof anyway.

Duh, okay, I get it. Hey it's been elbows and asses must of my life. I was a Amboy Dukes fan as well as the Motor City Madman, though.

A happening waiting for an accident? A doughboy pool? A campsite under the stars? A chance to bid? One that requires plastic furniture? A close-in draw just out of reach? A flat at street level? A bird's nest?
Remember that Gary Larsen cartoon with the two mosquitoes? ("Pull out, pull out Eloise; I think you've hit an artery!")
Rockydog Said: OK, kage. whats the answer? WHATS A HOUSE WITHOUT A ROOF!?!
You dont know And your a Roofer??...wow
OK, kage. what's the answer? WHATS A HOUSE WITHOUT A ROOF!?!
Yeah, we flashed the chimney with smooth and then went over it with the granulated sheet. the metal is just a counter-flashing. The old roof wasn't "bad" they just didn't do any flashing work to speak of. Looking at it, I don't think they knew how. It had about 1 inch pitch per foot and that made it quite easy to roof. It came out looking nice and it doesn't leak. they had leakage in that for about 20 years. the chimney had been rebuilt, and they had a big barrel in the attic catching the water that ran around the chimney "flashing" It was a joke. better now.
We would have stripped the chimney and the valley areas..
:woohoo: Yea, I think he torched the flashing and rolling into the granules    Does that really need an explaination?
OS, what did you do on the uphill side of the chimney to prevent water from getting under the flashing or is it just acting as a counterflashing? Did you seal the metal to the mineral surface?
I learned atrick from MikeNZ and put a piece of 3" cast iron pipe inside my rolls. ]I should have a golf club too. I just reach over and drag the roll towards me with my foot.
Rocky, you are going to fit right in here.
How about a fire extingquisherrrrrrr. did I spell that right. 1/4 inch bleed. I like french rolls better. With butter. Old School, stick to what you do best. Actually, I'm mighty proud of the job you did. The flashing looked great, the tie-ins were good and you replace the bad wood. Not everybody would do that.
We got a full adhesion and bleed on the joints. Like I said, that was the first torch down job we have done in about 5 years. I got the rolls from the local distributor, and I really don't know how long they have been in stock. It was a nice little job though and we fixed the leakage. We made a full day out of it, and I know there was a bit of profit on the job too. That is always a good feeling. I got the chance to do some work too. Funny, over the years I have installed thousands of rools of modified, and that was the first time my son and the guys have had a chance to install the torch on. Time flies!
CIAK, The side laps are funny with that stuff. You think that you are not using enough heat and the material really starts to run out when you roll the roll forward. It was a dance to get it the way I wanted it. I didn't let the guys install, just carry and watch. Next time maybe.
Where are the harnesses, slide guards and trampoline?
In picture 7 and 11 I see you have Italian rolls. Do you bother to get a full bleed on your rolls? I try to do mine from the front side of the roll with a skyhook of some sort. Vaa used a 9 iron for his if I remember correctly. B)  B)
