WC Comp Employee Seperation Question

Are you guys able to separate your workforce by what time your roofing versus doing other jobs? I've been getting different stories from insurance men in Illinois. I've had one insurance man say that since our name denotes roofing and no carpentry/construction that we are unable to pay a different WC rate no matter what we are doing. Another salesman showed us a few other companies he is doing exactly that for just by filling out a more detailed time sheet.

My top paid man hardly lays any shingles. He is there for detailed areas, but mainly to inspect and replace decking. Also we have a mechanic/driver who we have now dropped from our payroll because he never steps foot on the roof and we got screwed on his WC. We also start at our shop, load/clean trucks, and head for the job, which I would like to pay less for.

Just trying to stay competitive w/ all the lowballers around here...and still make a buck!

Ask your agent for a list of classifications. Roofers are generally in the 5512 or so class. The classifications are used nationwide by the industry. Set up and pay what ever class your guys/gals are working.

The insurance companies to be fair is gonna be like pulling teeth.

After all, payouts are based on the price of Tequila in MX not the USA. Premiums of course are based on luxury living in NYC
