Twill59,

My job is to connect with the people who are looking for me. I do not worry about the others.

My response to Mr. Lieber on his Facebook page.

Mr. Lieber, Your knee-jerk reaction to your having failed to do your due diligence in hiring a roofer, should be a burden born by you, not by all property owners and legitimate roofing contractors. Your efforts - if successful - will undoubtedly increase costs for property owners. Unintended consequences, designed to protect people like you who are evidently incapable of choosing an honest roofer without help from a government entity. Anyone who thinks that drafting more legislation will protect the property owner, should visit Amarillo and Abilene - 2 cities with the some of the most restrictive permitting requirements in Texas. We choose to abide by those requirrements in Amarillo as it is part of our trade area, but the process is an expensive 3-ring circus, complete with a clown.

At the very least, any new legislation should be specific to residential roofing, where one can better make the case that the homeowner may not be sophisticated enough to make solid roofing/roofer decisions. The guy who owns a $3 million strip mall has been around the block a time or two, and he doesn't need your help qualifying roofers - and he won't appreciate you adding $1500 to his and his roofer's cost to jump thru 9 hoops erected by "officials" who generally are clueless about how to make a roof work.

That is an interesting concept. Because there are so many lies out there, sometimes you don't even know the truth until you see it. I am not much of a consumer because I do everything myself, but my experience with electric companies is pretty similar. Several years ago, Texas deregulated electricity. Dozens of retail providers popped up with pie in the sky claims. I went through at least 5 providers and didn't even know I was being ripped off until I discovered an honest company. Sometimes it is just a numbers game.

Near as I can tell after 30 years of this the problem is not roofers, roofing or insurance, or even licensing.

It is greed and gambling. As long as Americans want something for nothing, they will continue to bet on low priced bullshitters.

Since I've been in business, since day one, at least 90% of my clients are are over age 40, and 80% are over 50.

Experience teaches: After so many times of getting ripped off, people simply want a good job for a fair price

Probably 2/3 of the roofing market is made up of gamblers. My job is to connect with the 33% that are looking for me
