PORTAGE | Police are investigating the possible theft of up to $400,000 from a local car dealership
Representatives of Harbor SuperStore, 6100 U.S. 6, allege a former employee may have embezzled up to $400,000 from the company.
The dealership filed a complaint Monday with the Portage Police Department and is conducting an internal investigation of the possible theft, Sgt. Keith Hughes said.
Hughes said the dealership is alleging a former employee embezzled funds over the past seven years by "apparently taking money off the nightly deposits."
Ken Nahod, sales manager for the dealership, said Tuesday the company would not comment on the investigation.
According to the complaint filed with the Portage police, the dealership have confirmed $198,602 is missing, and managers believe the final figure will be around $400,000 following their investigation.
Portage detectives are conducting their own investigation. They will forward their findings to the Porter County prosecutor's office for possible charges, Hughes said
The office manager at the orthodontist my kids went to recently got caught taking $200,000. Makes me think I paid him too much if it took him two years to discover $200,000 missing.
Gosh, that is only a bit over a thousand dollars a week! Surprized they missed it!
