Tom Hay would get a huge kick out of this. I have been chosen by a law firm to represent their client in a lawsuit over a failed SPF roof. :-) Right about now Tom would be saying: Huh? You, and SPF expert? You've been doing SPF, what, 3 years??? :-)
Yes, it's true. In my own defense, they wanted someone also well versed in handling disputed hail claim and I am definitely that. Also, in that 3 years we have become the largest SPF roofer in the region by a good margin, so there's that.
So today I am inspecting said roof with the attorney who chose me, the contractor who installed the roof, the opposing attorney and a man representing the other side who is with an SPF company that is a close competitor of ours. Conversation went like this:
Attorney: Do you know that other roofer that the opposing side chose as their expert? Me: Yes, but he's anything but an expert. Their company is know to be the 2nd worst SPF installer in the region. Attorney: What if he call attention to these flaws? Me: I'm reroofing 2 of his failed SPF roofs right now, I will have pics of his own flaws to discredit him. Attorney: Hahahaha, I think we chose the right guy.
Sounds like fun, especially if your getting paid that much. If you join the roofing groups on facebook you can really learn how to bash ANY work, so the other opponent may have this resource in his arsenal.
We were sent lawsuit papers a few years back. I called my Dad and asked if he was familiar with the address a few towns over. We went over there and he didn't recognize it. It turned out that it was the Other Clover roofing who had the same first name as my Dad. We knew he was roofing and we knew he got a church when the congregation thought they were getting us.
Anyways, it was some of the worst stuff I'd ever seen. Where the shingles hit a siding wall, he had a shingle laid going vertically up the roof. We called the law firm and said "You've got a great case, just the wrong roofer"
