It seems that most of what we do now involves one of these materials. We don't advertize at all, and all of our work comes from referals. How many of you do the "Hard" roofing, and how many do mostly shingles?

Mike in New Zeeland does mostly Torch down for sure, and there are others that do mostly rubber or flat roofing. I am to the point where I will hardly bid any shingle roofing. I don't get them anyway, and it seems a wste of time to do the math. What say you guys?

You gotta strike while the iron is hot. This is a vicious business!

I don't advertise but do mostly asphalt roofs. We do a handfull of cedar shake, shingle, and metal roofs per year. We have never gotten a call on slate or tile roofing. Have had a couple interested in fake slate but they go to higher end asphalt when they learn of the price.

Did advertise on google last Winter to gobble up some of the ice dam business. My budget was $150-300 a day. For about a month I ran an add Friday-Tue. Most of my calls came Mon and Tue morning after a warm weekend, lots of leaking. $2 a click got me to the third spot, $5 a click put me on top. There were a few Mon/Tue's that landed over 100 calls. We lost a lot of leads being 3-4 days out with two steamers.

Another source for tons of ice dam jobs and recently repairs is Angies List.

We do most anything, except spf & stone coated metal....no hot bur anymore either....course if we landed a spec'd project large enough, I'd rent a kettle....

Interesting. YP, Ricmond just called to add 3 more categories to my free listing and make sure all my business info was still valid. I didn't even know I was in one category.

So, Randy, if I look you up in the SP and call to BS, how much do you have to pay for the lead?

I kind of like the new yellow pages, where you only pay for calls you receive. The thing I don't like about it......is they give me a special phone number........so if I ever cancel my service I am sure people calling that number would get an out of business message, or something like that.

I fell asleep there for a couple of hours. Tinner, you are on Google Places, therefore I should still be there if I downgrade my ads. BTW: 3-4 calls a day for a niche market seems pretty good. I get about 20% of my bids but I'm far from the most diligent salesman.

"Tinner, what is "SEO"?

SEO isn't just Google guys. The internet has broadened people's horizons. And piqued their curiousity. Somebody wanting a roof, or repairs hits the web first thing. Not the phone books! The web! That means that when they type in a phrase with the word 'roofing' in it, this place comes up too! They read posts here and elsewhere! A simple link in your signature is SEO. Even if G doesn't see it, the potential client does. That is SEO too. Yes, I've gotten calls through every form I post on too. Nor does it cost me a monthly fee, other than my ISP service.

OS, I'm trying to do a voice-over for a video we did. I'm not good at 'second takes'! Operator kept covering the mike. I covered many idiot patches in a 49 minute video on the back of one house. 6-8 sq, I guess. I quit measuring years ago and now just figure what I want to do any particular job.

Sounds like a lot of work to me. i just keep on working and the phone keeps ringing occasionally and I do the work. i don't pay any advertizing bills and I am just as happy as a clam at high tide. The new AT&T phone books came out today and I see that Mr. Roof has two full pages in color! Wow! What an expense. course, they do all jobs in one day from start to finish. they must have 20 guys on the roof. I wonder how may speak english?

Slate and copper and tile don't seem to have that much competition around here. I know that some of the stuff I go and work on has been screwed up by the other folks. I don't understand how they can do that much damage to something that they know nothing about.

804-232-1875. You're online. Call.

Only 4 calls today though. 3 are for slate, one is to do a copper roof.

Depends on what specific phrase you use. I understand I'm usually #3 for 'roofing'. For 'slate repair', chimney repairs, slate roofs, etc, I'm #1. It costs about 10 minutes a month.

What I typed was "roofing -your city-" but I used the carrots and the forum thought it was a command. So if you type "roofing Richmond, VA" does your name come up on Google Places at the top w/ the map?
