So here we are, post-storm blaze in Atlanta. Yes, there was some legitimate hail damage. But I don't think the marginally-hit roofs that are leftover are going to leak. I'm ready to get out of here. I want to work somewhere where people actually need the roofer's help; not where roofers are bullying adjusters into buying. Where is some REAL hail damage? I just want to feel like I'm a part of the solution, instead of chunking millions of tons of shingles into landfills.

well every roof that may need a roof - Will not be able to be inspected for hail damage until spring because insurance companies and adjusters will not inspect them -- Besides that every homeowner thinks roofing in the winter is bad due to what they have been told from the stormers who leave state and cannot handle cold weather.

The only roofs paying around here are roofs from some local real estate agents clients selling their home and have been told their 5 year old roof has hail damage and the client not being able to sell the home until it gets a new roof that the insurance company denied - by mechanical damage or manufacturer defect which we all know these roofs will go another 10 years or better but the buyer is not buying it - because it is damaged according to the stormer and the insurance adjuster.

Funny thing is the stormers cannot even bid competitively if the insurance adjuster does not write it up for them to supplement.

I open up the yellow pages and their are more full page ads under roofing -- than all the other headings combined including the lawyers who for years used to have a spot on the cover and the back which now are taken by the stormers and State farm and the rest of the Insurance companies advertisements.

minnesotaroofin - are you really saying that there is absolutely NO roof work anywhere in your state? That EVERY structure has a new roof? That there is no chance that anyone will need repairs, replacement, gutter cleaning, ANYTHING? WOW! I am at a loss for words!

Not sarcastic -- i am sick of it too -- finally getting back to normal around here been a whole year without a hail storm and most stormers have left or quit here -- now doing repairs

All this year has been extremly slow and when we would get a lead it was a fight -- the stormers in the area pushed insurance on the few roofs left to do in the state --

so my only option is to what?? wait 15-20 years until these wear out? or pray for some more hail that will knock some granules loose or some wind that blows a shingle or 2 off a discontinued color so we can play games with the insurance companies and stormers again for a year or 2.

I have been thinking about coming down to your area this winter when there will be absolutly nothing here -- Maybee we could hook up -- First time in 20 years i have even thought about leaving the state

Minnesota Roofing: I'm not sure if that's sarcastic. If it wasn't then maybe you're onto something. I'm not saying I don't want the work. But after a while it just doesn't feel right. Everyone out here knows damn well that the roofs won't leak. Even the CAT adjusters know it. But they get paid to buy, bear in mind. In places like Kansas and OK where hail actually knocks a hole in the shingle, why don't the insurance companies pay for lifetime roofs, instead of replacing shingles every five or ten years?

I got an idea -- Why dont us roofers get a class action lawsuit against the insurance agencies for influencing the roofing trade unjustly and costing all of us local roofing companies futer sales and not to mention current sales as a result of the influenced demand that was created unjustly or aided in by insurance companies committing fraudulent claims.

OLE Willie

This is a good post. In all my years of roofing i don't think i have ever saw major hail damage to a roof. As in "extremely obvious" Yet i have seen hundreds of roofs get replaced from hail damage. Maybe even thousands. Im not complaining mind you but i understand where fayette is coming from. What i consider "dealing" with the insurance adjusters is a real friggin pain in the arse. Whether or not "enough" hail damage has occured to get a roof paid for is pretty much an individual "opinion". Very few if any of the roofs that i have seen with "hail damage" would have ever failed or leaked due to the hail hits. Most roofs lose granules on their own without any help from hail. lol If you dont believe that then start looking in the gutters while your doing your estimating. Heres a good example: Recently a good customer of mine that i have done numerous repair jobs for in the past had some hail hit his neighborhood. He called his insurance company on his own. I had no knowledge of the situation at this point. They sent out an adjuster who denied the claim. Well, many of his neighbors were getting their roofs bought so he got upset and called them back and told them what he thought about it. They requested a meeting between my salesman and their adjuster at the property. My guy met their guy ( which was a different person than the first ) and he promptly denied the claim also. My customer was livid and he kept calling them until they arranged yet another meeting with my salesman and a third adjuster at the property. This time it was a female adjuster and she paid the claim "in full". lol This was about 3 weeks ago. As of today we have also got both neighbors on each sides roofs bought as well. On the first attempt mind you. And we have more requests for bids from other neighbors down the street. This is why they deny claims sometimes. To not get this ball rolling. And to me that is not right. It should be you have sufficient hail damage for a claim or you dont. lol

Yeah.. the idea here is that every time an adjuster goes out to assess a roof, a "salesperson" who calls himself an "insurance claims specialist" goes out, too, and pressures the adjuster to buy, even if the roof is in okay shape apart from some granule loss. State Farm is getting smart. Wants to see fractures in the shingles. Other than that, perfectly-good roofs are getting torn off. I want to be somewhere where the hail is big and obvious.. Where the roof actually needs replacing, you know.

Well sweetheart try going to Detroit and getting some much needed rest. There isn't much to do there . You won't have to worry about landfills getting to full of roofing debris. What is real hail damage ?? I believe there are guys on here who would switch with you ( roofing loads ) that is. Bullying adjusters ??
