This is a local story about hoa's, shake vs comp, and an ironic twist.

---I have installed Chemco shakes. It was my opinion that the shakes were "harmed" by the Chemco process and would not last as long as untreated shakes. That was just my opinion and I have refrained from selling "fire treated" shakes. We regularly sell "fungal decay " treated shakes and I believe they are superior to "raw" shakes any day. I suppose the merits of the process against fire in high risk areas justifies it. ---In my area, Seattle, shakes are wet 10 months out of the year so fire is not really a threat. Other than July 4th fireworks, there is almost no danger of a shake roof catching on fire. And insurance companies do not raise premiums on shake roofs here so they and their actuaries agree. ---As a side note the house next door to my son went up in flames last night with a terrific roar. They had a comp roof. Of course, the roofing had nothing to do with the fire which started in the basement and got outside to the CEDAR siding and rose 50 feet. Lanny>>>
