I got a call today from a roofer/carpenter in Northern Norway: like next to Sweden and above the artic circle Norway. He is/was from the States, but married a girl from there and moved to Norway about 9 years ago.

If you look up "Conical roofs" on Google, one of the articles you will see is one I wrote about 5 years ago for Traditional roofing Magazine about that subject and he had some questions. It is amazing to me the power of this thing we call the internet. I have talked to two people from Australia, one from France, an architect from Scotland and now this guy because of the article. Many other roofers here in the states too! Tomorrow it the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and I suppose since he is way far north in Norway, he will be in darkness pretty much the whole day. Must not be a whole lot to do up there in the winter, did mention that he said that they have 3 children?

Found it. I can't find the others for some reason.

I did get a picture of the copper roof scaffolding though.

Old School Said: It can really make you think when you are trying to describe how to do it too. quote] Yes, that's the problem I have. Inability to properly articulate things. So, I have to start a manuever, stop, try to explain it, remmeber where I was, and 'move' some more, articulate again, repeat, repeat, :woohoo: I recently worked with an engineer doing his copper roof. Best I could do to explain it was to have him up there and walk through each step as we turned a gable termination into a rake and a hip, all at one time. I was at a loss to begin to tell him what i was going to do, other than say 'By the numbers. Termination had to conclude to start on rake and drip-edge, and then figure out the hip last."

I looked but can't find pix I know I took.

It is fun to work them through the glitches though. It can really make you think when you are trying to describe how to do it too. That is the best way to "know" how to do something is to try and teach it.

By assisting on DIY forums and elsewhere, I've gotten e-mails form Icelnd, Russia, England, Canada, etc. and spent countless time assisting others on projects. I'd get pix of a problem, and do photo mock-ups with tin, aluminum, or even cardboard to express how the problem should be tackled. A few times, I'd even go out of state, for a fee, to assist on projects.

OLE Willie

It was 73 degrees here yesterday but dropping to 42 for tomorrow. A strong cold front is pushing through as I type bringing a lot of rain with it. Good thing too because I just finished up all the work from the last rain we had about 2 weeks ago. B)

We are down for a week or two with the weather up here too. Not close to Zero yet, but it is coming. I am looking for a bit of inside work. Much better that way.
