Roofguy Said: This afternoon I give a deposition as an expert witness for a roofer being sued by the property owner. I asked an attorney friend if it was ok to carry in there, or would the law office be considered an extension of the courthouse in a deposition? He said: If youre not carrying, you may be the only person in the room who isnt.
Gotta love Texas!
If that's the case, I'd think twice about being an expert witness against some wacky roofer. One day's pay isn't worth months of looking over your shoulder.
He has a partner and their business is just one year old. Like many "Insurance Restoration Companies". It's so easy even a cave man can do it. Seems like the video worked for them to some extent.
Here's a better story about the video. The guy and his partner managed to get it on the 6 O'clock news in their local area.

They got the idea from a car dealership in Texas and they also managed to get themselves on the show "Fox and Friends". Nationally.

5. Id feel a lot safer in the presence of our gun touting, underwear-ing, can popping navy vet, than being in the same town as alba.
LMAO Ditto!
For the record, I like my boomsticks. I just don't like that this is painting a clear picture to the insurance companies that roofers have nothing to complain about with pricing.
I'm not fixated on illegals, it's only a minor problem in my area. I lose a lot of work to other contractors who use guys without insurance, licensing, or dump into ditches. I really have no problems with filling ditches either, but it's illegal.
I don't get too upset about these problems though, thankfully this area keeps us busy.
It's a kickback to the customer for giving them the insurance business not a discount.
1. It is not illegal to shoot a gun after drinking. It may be stupid, but its not illegal.
What is illegal is consuming alcohol while carrying a CONCEALED WEAPON IN PUBLIC. I'm Ohio I'm barred from entering most places that serves it. If he could fit a pistol in his daisy dukes, on his own property, he had every right to do so.
2. He obviously was not inebriated.
3. The beer was real, but there's no evidence he even took a swig of the whiskey.
4. Not only did he NOT FIRE THE GUN, but the clip was empty. I'm sure our navy vet has enough sense to not throw around a loaded weapon.
5. I'd feel a lot safer in the presence of our gun touting, underwear-ing, can popping navy vet, than being in the same town as alba.
You are fixated on illegals, which is only relevant to this thread in your mind. To suggest that a roofer can't discount a roof without using illegals is silly. I'm not for discounting roof, I hate it. But I'm for freedom first.
Eating deductibles became illegal because it costs the insurance company money for them to properly compensate a homeowner for a loss. In turn, it costs the consumer money with higher rates. It is unethical to eat deductibles. Period! Using other insurance items, such as the ACV for the gutters & window wraps isn't eating a deductible. Invoicing for work you haven't exactly done, or supplementing a claim because you need more to do a job and then giving the customer a kickback is. This kind of "discount" will make regulations get continually tighter on everybody.
I didn't say they were poor quality. I said they use cheap subs, which is an assumption I think we can all agree with. If they were in a retail market without a magical or sacred money spewing machine that pays for a few dents in a roof, I would have zero problems with their "discount." Where does the money come from for this discount? It's not because they buy shingles for $10/sq cheaper. It's because they are good at a game of manipulation.
Does this guy accept the insurances first bid without supplements? I doubt it.
Does he find legitimate damage before calling the insurance company, or does he just play the "file 10 claims and hope 3 get approved" game? Hey salesman, here's 10% for making a homeowner trust us!
Are his subs legal? Who knows.
For somebody who spews any excuse available to defend his preferred constitutional right in the name of patriotism, I'm surprised you are so complacent with a racket in your own trade which keeps illegals employed.
clvr83 Said: He never said insurance, claim, or deductible in the video yet all of a sudden we are speaking of eating deductibles. We all know the score. If he is able to give away a $600-$1,000 weapon/TV/prostitute, Id dare say his business is doing fine without the ad. He wants more. More salesman claiming every roof they step on. More cheap subs who cant even spell retirement. More guys on the inside fighting with insurance to get more out of each claim all in the sake of helping the customer get whats owed to them.
I have to fight insurance to get a fair shake on a lot of jobs and people who eat deductibles for a living are part of the problem. It is unethical.
It is unethical because it is illegal. Period!
It us nothing more than discounting, and while you may not like discount roofers, there is noting inherently unethical about discounting. If I buy a truckload of shingles and save $10/SQR, discounting $5/SQR to win more work is not unethical. Don't assume that everyone who has a low cost business structure does poor quality.
Thank you for clarifying that. Im so relieved to hear that AR 15 is not an assault weapon .whiskey , beer and AR 15 , the darling of mass murderers .what could possibly go wrong with that combo? Who needs ISIS when we have drunk armed guys in our own neighborhood ready to defend our freedom.
I appreciate you helping me make my point better than I did. Why would I want to be equipped inferior to the bad guy? I sleep better at night knowing that my family is protected by an AR that likely has better components than the bad guy's, and that I likely have vastly better training than he has.
Would you have me defend against him with a Red Rider with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time?

Exactly!
He is portraying a character; I doubt he's that way in real life.
He has found and exploited an angle. It works. He likely grew his company a higher percentage this year than anyone reading this.
I disagree that it has little to do with 2A. Yes, there is a chest-bowing element to 2A supporters, but it is not artificial. We say things like Molon Labe/Come And Take It, From My Cold Dead Hands, etc. It seems silly to those outside the gun community but it is serious. Essentially their posturing means to say: I am a peace-loving man, not an, anarchist, but I understand what the next step is after nationwide gun confiscation, and I'll die to stop it if forced to. It is intended as a deterrent as much as anything. It has usefulness.

1. In Texas at least, it is against the law for me to take a single tiny sip of alcohol while carrying. The amount allowed: ZERO! If I do, my license is taken away forever.
It is against the law to imbibe while carrying a weapon in Alabama too. And yet he's doing it openly on national TV , in front of the whole country and no one seems to mind ... Actually they're bragging on his business acumen...[/[/i]i]
2. AR-15s are not assault weapons. The AR stands for Armalite Rifle, the original mfg.

4. A friend of mine is a very gifted attorney who has argued cases with the Supreme Court. He has told me that it is NOT insurance fraud to offer marketing incentives that are not different than what others offer. Car dealerships offer free ARs all the time. He also said it is completely legal do this, as an example:
An insurance agent told me once that it's illegal but very rarely prosecuted .
