When i arrived in Florida in 1989 i had been running 3 tabs on 5 for years and hand nailing,i was introduced to senco staple guns and a lot of line popping there.I found it was faster to go up a rack with a staple gun or coil nailer and it was all about speed back then.We were getting paid very low and had a lot of metal to hang and bull to smear.

Have done close to 40 square in a day, with the 6 inch offst rack, easier placement for shingles as you run them,if you have lines, you`ll never see an issue. with 3 tabs vertical rack is quickesthttp://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/show_album_photo.asp?userid=78&albumid=352&file=2475&s=1

diagonally, had some crews runnin straight up and it was obvious, and their was A time that A bundles die lot was slightly off.it was clear how they were run. had they run on the angle the shingles would have had A better chance of not flashing the difference.

45 degrees across the roof (diagonal with 5 5/8 with the gauge on the roofing nailer the same).

It is how we do it in the northwest. In the east...I know that carpenters pattern is prevailant. Had a minnisota roofer move to our area, he had to learn our method. After awhile of getting used to it, he admitted to it being an easier installation practice.
