Merry Christmas to me. Purchased a computer desk on line. A Sauder put together. Very cool, uncluttered my table with the tower hidden on one side and drawers for files and misc. on the other. I had the guys lay it on the floor packaged. Started at 2pm sorting the screws and assorted pieces and stopped at 8pm with the desk 75% complete on its side. It needed to be stood up and I couldn't budge it, it was heavier than a .....Next morning I had my buddy help me stand it up. All peace and serenity came to a halt, a man was involved. Me & the instruction manual were quickly thrown out the window, not literally because I threatened to put him out the window. I quickly interfered with the coupe de ta and resumed with my page to page manual. Handed him the screwdriver and told him...be happy. The finished result is beautiful and I am :).
What is it guys, something genetic? You see tools, parts and you all go to pieces. I know you probably could have done it in much less time, but think of it this way, if I'm busy doing a project alone guess what I'm not doing. Love ya, PC
The instructions were very good, detailed and all materials there. I ended up with 2 cam pins left over, my mistake. They gave a reminder to make sure all the cams were locked,so in double checking I discovered that I neglected the insertion of 2. I was too far along to back track, since the desk is remaining stationary this won't be a problem. I also put the legs on wrong, again my fault, it clearly stated...the leg must be flush against the end that I did correct.
I laughed at myself while doing this because I am not a MANUAL person. I usually unpack and fiddle with and figure it out myself. Many years ago Erma Bombeck did her column on this very thing, which I cut out for my husband to read. She like myself usually discard the manual and jump in where her husband has to read it 5 times before starting anything and constantly referred to through the project, as my husband did. Just a personal laugh but funny.
I wouldn't hesitate do this again. :S
I'm A firm believer in following directions. I've had guys question me when they see me reading directions or looking at pictures on packages. I just chuckle and smile.it means alot to me to exemplify through leadership the proper way to do things. and I'll always chime in with the old cliche. when all else fails read directions, and when that doesn't work, read them again. good on yafor stayin busy. whats the old sayin, when you got a tool in each hand theirs only room for improvement.
And you will write it down with pencils that are made in China that the lead falls out of every time you try and sharpen them.
The directions have gotten a lot better on stuff over the past 5 years. Some of the first directions on stuff out of China years ago was crazy. I would be steaming mad putting something together saying "All this people writing these directions will end up in hell for an eternity assembling crap from each others directions"
