One of the many blow offs here has been assigned and the architect called me yesterday regarding fasteners for the new roof. The substrate is lightweight and took in water in various areas after the storm. We did pull tests a while back and got results from 60lbs for a BSF to over 500lbs for a xhd 14 screw. He is inquiring what type of fastener would I reccomend, I tell him screws and plates, mainly because of the high wind risk already demonstrated in that area, and the fact that the lightweight has already been compromised and in some areas it may be worse than where we did the pull tests. He does'nt want screws because of the perforation of the metal deck, so wants to go with the cheaper option, the BSF or the Olylock at about the same. This does'nt make any sense to me, the risk I mean, "it's a metal deck, so what if you put holes all over it, if the new roof leaks, then whether it comes in through screw holes or some other exit point is immaterial.............no?>>>

Never thought of that angle Mike, makes sense though, he had that way about him. The spec came out, was bid, and the winner was $166k.......we were at $259k. That was a fair price too, 160 sq tear off mod bit on two adjacent roofs, back with tapered ISO and two ply Soprema. I don't know how he is gonna make money. As far as the fasteners, he wants splitshanks over vented base, then hot mop the rest. Torch the cap if you want. Whatever......>>>

It's all about liability Jed. This guy doesn't want to do anything that changes the structural elements. I'd bet money on it.>>>
