You Republicans had 8 years to groom someone through the Clinton Years. You didn't. You came up with BUSH. Pathetic. According to surveys the Netherlands are the Happy people. They pay out the Cazo. But they are cared for. Everyone here bitches about TAXES. There is an old saying "Ya pays me now, or pays me later". think about it boys. PC

This topic also reminds me of high school.

Freshman year economics (class right before lunch). The day came were the class was instruction to raise there hand and tell the teacher and others the infamous questions "What do you want to be in life".

When it was my turn I thought about my dad, grandpa, uncles, great uncles, and cousins and said "A roofer". The teacher than opened his little wage earning book and said, "Doug, you do know the average roofer makes $32,000 a year while the average roofing laborer makes slightly more?"

The year before that (1993) my father paid taxes on $115,000. He never stepped foot one roof as he had 5 crews doing that for him on new roofs. After my moms accident early my sophmore year my dad let me drive her car to school on a regular basis. Funny looking back thinking it was newer and more expensive than any other teachers, principle, and vp's!

Still that economics teacher thought a roofer was not a good way to go!!!

obama has written a memrior(sp?) or two, and got a peace prize?

There are people that will read about nothing. Even before being the pres he did absolutely nothing of importance. Peace? LOL!!! Guess there wasn't many others in the running or something??? Although I'm 100% for the war effort you would think peace would have been offered to someone who would have ended a war and not kept it going??? Again I'm for the war not against it. Perhaps he got it for never being in any armed forces of any type and the leader of one of the worlds strongest armed forces?

Honestly I think the only good thing obama did was send the snipers to intercept the merchant boat out in the middle east. Of course his decision was a yes or no. With no military background what occured was way out of his realm.

If that's directed at me, it's not only wrong, but highly offensive. I am not prejudiced by color, nor ideology. Only by character. Prejudice toward ideology is only directed to those without the character to debate ideology in a respectful and intelligent manner. I see neither in Obama, nor most of his followers. My best friend in college was black and his home was open to me every weekend. I have experienced what it's like to live "black" moreso than most white folks.

Does prejudice exist? Oh hell yeah!, my sister lives in Mississippi and it sickens our whole family to see some of what happens there.

I would vote for J.C. Watts in a heartbeat, if he runs. I voted for Allan Keyes in the last primary, and I am very interested in the potential 2012 candidacy of Herman Cain. I however am highly prejudiced toward the politics of dependency that are promoted by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and many of the democratic party for the sole purpose of protecting their positions of social power.

An open mind would show most people that republicans, as a majority of the party, are far more interested in promoting policy and developing conditions that make it possible for ALL people to better themselves through personal initiative.

Failing to be a Socialist does not make one prejudice.

John, I'm trying to figure where you are coming from. You all deserve it. There is no balance between the Blue & White. My heart goes to the BLUES. I have lived it and breathed it my whole life. You are all the HEART of AMERICA. My Dad was a coal miner in Scotland, to better my life came to NYC got a job as a Janitor in the Chrysler Building. Then worked for a bank (White Collar)it was the 60's Boom Time. Passed away 11 years ago. He lived and breathed us 4 kids. Worked his whole life. Never complained , just worked. My compliment to him was helping my Mom take care of him, he was a stroke victim for 14 years. I'm sorry I'm crying as I'm typing. Reading "Decision Points" was well worth the time, and I must say I finished with a greater deal of understanding regarding the burden of the Presidency. Plus, I give you just a few questions to think about.

If any other of our presidents had doubled the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had criticized a state law that he admitted he never even read, would you think that he is just an ignorant hot head?

If any other of our presidents joined the country of Mexico and sued a state in the United States to force that state to continue to allow illegal immigration, would you question his patriotism and wonder who's side he was on?

If any other of our presidents had pronounced the Marine Corps like Marine Corpse, would you think him an idiot?

If any other of our presidents had put 87,000 workers out of work by arbitrarily placing a moratorium on offshore oil drilling on companies that have one of the best safety records of any industry because one foreign company had an accident, would you have agreed?

If any other of our presidents had used _a forged document_ as the basis of the moratorium that would render 87000 American workers unemployed would you support him?

If any other of our presidents had been the first President to need a Teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If any other of our presidents had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take his First Lady to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had reduced your retirement plan holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought it a proud moment for America?

If any other of our presidents had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, wouldn't you have winced in embarrassment?

If any other of our presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If any other of our presidents' administrations had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If any other of our presidents had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If any other of our presidents had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have ever approved.

If any other of our presidents had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

I guess I started pretty young in roofing. 20 years old first year with a six figure income. Not selling either stapling down shingles on new construction. Worked alone 80% of the time 60-70 hour weeks.

Now the IRS/MN gov gets half a six figure income every single year...

My accounant said it best the other day. People say the "rich" don't pay enough in taxes but common folk can't wait for there tax return paid by the rich.

It's odd how a high school drop out can pay in income tax per year more than the average person with a college degree earns in a year. Only in America...

Have friends who are RN's and LPN's and the word around the clinics they work at are not good in regards to the new communist health insurance plan. The doctors who have the most invested are the most concerned.

If obama bin laden could have his way everybody would live in the same size house and have the same size income. We would all drive the same car. There would be no poor people who are to lazy to work everybody would live the american dream.

Although being a right winger would rather have recent dems in charge like clinton (the sex pervert) then this knuckle head.

Roofguy...don't get me wrong. I know too many hard workers, You are the funniest guys. I loved my boys, and I call them that, grown men, didn't matter. I feel very bad of the inconsistency, but I have to tell you. My boys loved me as much as i loved them. I see them on occassion, nothing but love & kisses. When I can say thht , it's a good thing. Patty, it's common for people to engage in class warfare with the highly educated and successful being the enemy. I have 1 semester of college, no degree. I've worked since the 6th grade, the last 32 years in the roofing industry. One of the first lessons I learned was that hard work and long hours were a pretty decent substitute for advanced education.

When I was 29 I made my first 6-figure income, selling roofs. I knocked 40 doors on businesses 5 days a week, sometimes 6. 38 business owners/managers would reject me every day (on average), 2 would let me bid theior roof, I'd sell 1 out of the 2. Average commission was $400.

That was back in 1989 when $100,000 was a lot of money - more than "some" doctors and lawyers were making then. The way I see it, making decent money has as much to do with work ethic as it with privilege.

You brought up several issues. Yes Drs.(amongst others) are due the rewards, worked hard, very costly, they worked for it.

As to the discrection between ballplayers & roofers. I understand, I have many a friend that is blue collar, hard good guys that deserve more. I have said for 2 decades, we are going through a seperation of the classes. White Collar & Blue Collar will never mix. BRAINS & BRAWN.

I agree, the President, is at no way totally in charge. America made it that way. As a precaution. We don't like DICTATORS. I think that is why we are all here. Stop for a moment and think of Egypt, Liybia, Iran, Iraq, throw them all in there. We are so fortunate in comparision.

As far as the Health Plan goes, time will tell. I appreciated the effort the Clintons' did in '94, of course, beat down. It took until 2010???? I will say this......Our Senators & Representatives need to reflect on themselves, to appreciate "US" for paying their way, health insuranse, per diems, airfare, hotels, prostitutes, booze. They don't know how to be without. Corruption doesn't belong JUST in Chicago. SO MANY GREEDY PEOPLE.

mike i agree with you, obama learned his politics here in chicago, and our last 2 governers are in prison. if thats any indication. his health care plan is based on socialistic ideals. any time government runs an industry that is not democracy. doesnt a doctor that went thru 8 years of college deserve to make good money? america is so screwed up in its ideals that we pay a sprots star millions to play a game, but a hard working roofer who probably has a greater risk of injury or at least death doesnt even make a fraction of that.personally i dont think it matters who is president. does it matter who the captain of a sinking ship is?
