Real heavy rains here the last two weeks, and last week 60mph winds and at least two tornados that I heard of. One ripped through LSU and gave us yet another flat roof blow off (don't know how to post pics) which we temp foamed in over the w/end, and a three man tile repair crew for two weeks has been requested. Starting tonight we are under another heavy wind and flood advisory through 3/2 so likely will sustain more damage. Locally there is still a ton of residential shingle work, blue tarps everywhere. Since the turn of the year we have completed 1700 sq on state shingle work alone.>>>

OLE Willie

Hi, we have had a fair amount of damage here as well and were pretty dead until 6 weeks ago. Some scattered hail damage and a gravity wave that provided a fair amount of blow offs. They dont nail shingles around here they just put em on top of each other and let em stick together. lol Insurance paid some of them in full, but a lot of customers had to do just repairs. Others got half payments or less and had to put money with that to get a new roof. Either way it has picked up work a lot for us. The repair work is no thanks to insurance companies. The thanks goes to Mother Nature. However the insurance has paid some h/o's and this has helped. Even the half payments have allowed them to get a new roof for 50%. I was at a customers house yesterday 48 sq. She said she will have to pay me about half the money and then wait for insurance it might take a while. Said she had a little money and borrowed some more from her dad. She really didn't have very much damage either though. The good thing about insurance is once they start paying off "enough" claims it catches like a wild fire. They know this. Thats why they "try" to keep it down in the beginning. But if the storm damage is wide spread enough that is not possible. Jed the work in your area will begin in a couple weeks.>>>

We are in LA, but holding back on bidding work right now as our contracts with the state are coming up for renewal. There is, I am sure, more work here than in most parts of the country due to the storms that have come through recently. Many, many flat roof blow offs that are still temped in LARGELY DUE TO THE INSURANCE COMPANIES NOT HONORING THEIR CONTRACTS WITH POLICY HOLDERS AND RE-ROOFING SAID BUILDINGS.>>>

Thanks, for the concession Jed. If you ever need the likes of me  ;) I will be more than happy to help. To broad or just a stupid thing to say " i dunno " . It sometimes takes people with strong wills a while to come out of the hypnotic state . I see a few cracks which is always a good thing dealing with friends .>>>

The state is self insured. When they sustain damage to one of their roofs, they call us. We fix it. We bill them. They pay us. They then get reimbursed through ORM. Self contained. Self insured. Me saying "we do not do insurance work" was probably a little to broad, especially for you. What I meant was we do not do work for customers who have to deal with the likes of you and the people you represent. How's that? >>>

Jed Said:Im just tracking the amount of work the insurance industry is providing in the down turn ? Where there are not storms like these,.......

........The insurance industry is PROVIDING???.........Good Grief

None of our work is insurance work. We hold state contracts and they are self insured so doing the work and GETTING PAID is not a problem. The blue tarps are still around because the homeowner is having TROUBLE getting the INSURANCE CO to pay for a new roof. Spoke with one homeowner last week who has a ten grand deductible.

That is a oxymoron Jed, What in the world are you talking about ??? We don't do insurance work because they are self insured ????? That is pure ignorance straight up ignorance . One of the big problems with the blue tarps is the homeowner had a huge deductible because they choose it . The insurance company is bound by the contract. because I think you should pay me to educate ignorance doesn't make it so. It is so obvious it makes you sound like a fool. >>>

Thanks Jed..I got it and will get back with you. Them are very fair rates and a lot better than Houston. I applaud you for treating your guys fair.

CIAK....If it wasnt for insurance work I could never survive. Almost all my work is residential and out of the last 7-8 roofs, all but 1 have been insurance paid. And the one that wasnt paid by insurance I got beat down on price so bad I wish I had never taken it.

And 2 of them roofs that insurance approved, the homeowners decided they would do the roofs themselves since they have teenage sons that are out of work and laid off as well as the father. Wish I could turn them in, they are State Farm customers.

I bet insurance work is 70% of my income, if not more.

How much of this is insurance work ? Most of the residential work insurance or not ? I'm just tracking the amount of work the insurance industry is providing in the down turn ? Where there are not storms like these, I'm wondering what percentage of it is not insurance related . By the way according to someone it's the Media not an actual down turn HMMmm " i dunno know " it sounds pretty damn foolish saying something like that. Like somebody wants to sell someone a bridge or something.>>>

We have had a string of wet weather this spring. I am busier quoting work right now than I have ever been this early in the year. I for one am not seeing the recession that every one keeps talking about. I am bidding a lot and getting most of the repair work but the full roofs are harder to get at this time of year when so many guys are bidding bare bones to book some work. Same ole same ole. Still have a months worth of work from 08. >>>

Hey Jed...If you dont mind could you email me a ballpark of what people are paying for shingle crews down your way. My email is SSRB87@aol.com I had some buddies in Houston and they said the pay was terrible...just wondering if I can make any money coming down your way and doing some smaller tear-offs. Our chit is so slow....I am bored!! Thanks!>>>
