I wonder how many roofers are familiar w/ an executive order signed by the president known as PLA ( project labor agreement) From what I have read and interpret, all federally funded projects are limited to only union contractors. I am so glad to be retired, for if we were still in business, our livelihoods, and support of dozens of roofers, would be in jeopardy. I can t understand how such a prejudiced and malevolent act is legal or tolerated. It only serves 13% of the workforce, and denies potential employment to the other 87%, many of whom are minorities, and underemployed in the construction trades. Competition is limited to union contractors only, undoubtedly leading to increased costs to the taxpayer. What a way to encourage small businesses and job creation.
thanks john i was listening to your wisdom more than it seemed. i challenge EVERYTHING, that's how i learn, well and bumpin my head too! gotta admit though, it's so much easier being on the outside looking in.
Good job Branden. It is encouraging to see that. I am reading everyting you write and i think it is coming across better every time. Sometimes you have to take a step back before you can take 1 or 2 forward.
more "tyranny of the majority" fallout. just like "cash for caulkers" funny how home depot was involved and GE is taking over the caulking industry. can anyone say....corporatocracy! but still don't stand in front of the truck that arrives on scedule every day. once you figure out the schedule, stay off the street during that time aye! yeah i'm learnin john!
From what I gather, they are project exclusive, not a requirement for Fed agencies, and have been in existence for decades.
The Govt uses the argument that a job specific PLA guarantees no strike related work stoppages for the duration of the project, and therefore "justify" the favor to the fat pockets of the unions that put them in office.
Going with regular contractors would cut the deficit by trillions on a yearly basis and create scads of jobs, but we wouldn't want that, now would we? B)
