Here's how to do a valley in Slate if you want it weaved.

Just one of many techniques in the 'other' Slate Bible. :)
The ones that I seen were asphalt however I could understand the use of wood and thatch, Peter now Peter1 used to post some of his work with thatch roofing it was quite interesting, then of course we have the Seminole Indians who have a lock on Southern Florida weaved roofing perhaps their thatch roofing is different, circle the wagons the government is giving something away lol
Daryl, most of that is all wood shingles, and with the cost of them now, it is EXPENSIVE!! You probably use about 4 squares for every square of roofing and the curving and waves make it even more costly. They steam the wood shingles to get them to curve in both directions too, and that adds to the cost. You see a lot of that 'look" in Germany with the thatch roofing, but that is easier to do because the straw in the thatch will naturally curve.
That slate work pictured was also probably from Germany, Liam Tower from Vermont and a member of the SRCA (Slate Roofing Contractors Association) has done some of that style and he is really an artist with slate. Slate is an art form for sure.
I did a wave roof once. The home owner wanted the roof to look crooked and saggy to match the old barn it was built onto. I just through junk like pieces of wood and scraps all over the roof and just roofed over them. it matched the old roof perfectly and the owner just loved it.
This was the project. The roof on the end. I don't have a pic of the finished roof that I can find.
Has anyone ever seen the wave style roofing most of the ones that I have seen have been on the West Coast, however one of the largest contractor lives in Florida. I do not know them only of their work B)
I have never seen that before! It's weird as a football bat. But I don't do slate so I know NOTTA!
