I didn't want to hijack Robert's thread but Egg's comment causes me to think.
Even though that lunatic shooter was white, this is the very same mentality that Sharpton and Jackson have invested in. They have created a million-strong throng of discontented, no pissed off, people who have been told that the reason their life sucks is because whitey has kept them down.
They have that sense of "entitlement" that says that everything the white man has, has been taken by cheating them and their ancestors. So it is ok to take stuff back thru theft and endless entitlements (a distinction without a difference).
I fear much violence is to come in the coming years and that our nation is a powder keg desperately searching for a spark.
Mike H Said: we are all blinded just a bit by our own life experience. While prejudice may not happen as often as one person believes, it happens more often than another person will see.
Agreed.
Growing up in a small town with very few minorities, those that did live here were just another part of the group. There wasn't a population big enough for any sort of racial separation.
When going to college, my best friend was black. I was 1800 miles from home, and he was local. I would go home with him on the weekends. Living, sleeping, eating with a black family did open my eyes to the realities of discrimination, and/or the perception of such. I think there is often a tendency to perceive first that a chip not falling in your direction was based on prejudice, even if chip placement was legitimate.
But we are all blinded just a bit by our own life experience. While prejudice may not happen as often as one person believes, it happens more often than another person will see.
I have known mostly suburban blacks. Not that many, maybe 30 or so. Every one of them have had more common sense, integrity and ethics than any member of the black caucus, either black attorney general or the POTUS.
OK, there were two of them that are Maxine Watters-level crazy. I don't know if the blacks that end up in suburbia have a different mindset that enables them to live here or if living here changes them.
Well said Andy. When I'm working in Alabama, I find myself gravitating to the black man more than the white, but I readily admit, discrimination is still strong in the south and I think that's part of why I gravitate that direction.... the hope of proving that not all whitey's think they are better just because they be whaat.
Every group of people has been wronged by someone or some group of people, at some point in time. Sharpton & Jackson have just found a way to turn a substantial profit, catering to their ideology.
Just like all the flag nonsense, & desecrating confederate soldiers graves..... it is NOT about the flag, or even those veterans. It is an ideological attack.
It ain't about black & white. I have more in common with a rural black man in the south, than most urban whites in Chicago, New York, or Boston......
