What's your perception of the BSA? My boys & I are struggling with the current state of affairs.....Not what it used to be....The last two Eagle Scouts I hired, were by no stretch a good example. I think it's going the way of everything else.....I wouldn't be surprised if gays are allowed within the next 5 yrs. (yes, I'm a proud "homophobe")....
I guess I should've caught on by the other re-inforcing comments
Well....The gay thing won't be happening...Come to find out, the LDS, which has come to make up a good portion of scouting, has said in no uncertain terms. they will drop BSA like a hot potato if gays are allowed in.
Or just be vague
You got to be more specific TomB
When my son was involved in scouting, unfortunately I was consumed by putting in 60 to 70 hour weeks running two businesses. I did, however become the official trnasporter for the equipment. My trucks were used to transport camping gear, bikes, canoes, do Christmas tree pickups, etc.
What's eating me, is that the image and preconceived notions we/the public have of scouting is not the reality....I suppose I shouldn't "generalize", as the pack/council, my now, 1st class boyscout started out with, was wonderful; The leaders attended training, the activities were positive/eventful, the scout values were basically adhered to. Very enriching environment.
Today, in this particular local, I cannot in good faith continue to subject my boys to such inappropriate/unproductive behavior displayed and gone unaccounted for, involving both scouts & adult leaders. It goes against everything we teach, as well as their martial arts & church values.
I'm as guilty as anyone.....With these preconceived notions of scouting "nobility"....What a farce! Just so they can add "Eagle Scout" to their resumes? As an employer, I was reminded of the last couple of eagle scouts that worked for us; One was a thief, the other was a liar.
I'm definitely biased, as I was a leader. I attended trainings. I tried to follow the BSA core values, etc....We spent thousands of dollars out of our pockets and many, many hours/days, dedicated to help generate/get these peole going in the right direction....Then to sit by and whatch these liberal weanies make a mockery of it all, is disgusting & heartbreaking....Especially for the boys, who are sent messages, that it's acceptable to disregard all that BSA protrays.....It's not all for naught...They're greatly better off now, than a couple of years ago.
Just wanted to get others' experiences and perceptions of BSA. To sort of develope a type of "control" basis.
How's that for a rant?
What's really eating @ you? Lazy Eagle Scouts?
We're done...Have a 1st class boy scout and a webelos....Unfortunately, scouting here pretty-much mirrors public schools...Our boys were private schooled up till a couple years ago, That's probably why they don't fit well with the local troop & pack....Where we came from, (3 yrs ago), was excellent...Here, it's the typical lib/PC thing....No values/accountability instilled what-so-ever....BSA has an incredible PR dept/tactics....
Not sure. We'e new @ it. Joe's been in Cub Scouts for about 4 mos.
There are some parents who try. Not very many Dad's involved. (Me & 1 other w/ 6 Moms in our pack) The Den looks a little better as far as Dad's go.
So far I am impressed w/ the LaSalle Council, the leaders and the quality of the Boy Scouts & Webelos.
Since Joe is Home Schooled, I value this outlet for him. The belief system of the Scouts is what we desire. It also gives Him & I something together.
The scouts here have a wonderful camp (Topeneepee) we just had "WinterFest" there a couple of Saturdays ago and it was a very good day. The Scouts stress family, and little brother came along. I see a few sisters around too. We have one that comes to every meeting.
Tom, that should do it well! Not what I had in mind, but hey!
Next thing you know they will have girls in the boy scouts; and perhaps boys in the girl scouts. Do they still have girl scouts?
Gives a WHOLE NEW meaning to "can I push in your stool"??
The Brokeback boys.
The Ruff Riders
Im all for gays starting thier own scouts.
