6906 is similar tot he Beretta with decock dropping the hammer. The Glocks have about 4# pull with quick reset using original spring for that. The 42 will gett he same treatment when Ghost/Lone Wolf starts selling the trigger kits for it. The LW Glock barrels are a simple drop in and leaning against a tree at 30', the `9 put three rounds in the same hole, no cloverleaf pattern.. :)

I am really fortunate to have this place http://www.tuscorifle.org/ just 5 miles away, and a nice 50 foot indoor range the opposite direction where it's $7/hr, $14/day

Or I can go shoot up the side of the hill behind the house where a collapsed mine opening makes the perfect backstop.

Frank, that makes sense. I read up a little on the glock. Sounds like it's same pull/every time, all the time. Didn't know that. I know my Beretta's are all DA/SA, but that DA shot is where I've always struggled. Always tend to pull my first shot down a good 4-8 inches if I don't carry it caulked. Problem with the Beretta design is the safety is also a de-cocker, so I don't like them as a carry weapon.

tinner666 Said: Nice range. Ours consists of a line between some trees with clothes pins to hold the targets.

We do have some 8-10 gongs which we pln to set down the hill aways when we finally clear some brush there.

Those gongs will be fun :) Always liked that idea. Won't be practical at my range but may get a spinner or two up.

Mine used to be a target plasti-capped to a tree :) I wanted something more easily accessible, & comfortable for sighting in rifles, etc.

Same with the archery set up. Used to have an old wood door leaning up against a tree with tagets in front of it... that didn't fare to well. Having the "archery range" set up... my boys use it a lot more, & seem to take it more seriously.

My hope is the same with the gun range. In addition to my immediate family, it's more user friendly when I have guests who aren't rednecks..lol walking a ways through the woods, down the holler to a target plasti-capped to a tree while fine, doesn't have the same feel to it as sitting at a shooting table, & really focusing on proper mechanics, & shooting a rifle. Especially for people that aren't frequent shooters.

Roofguy Said: Andy, I built a 30 x 10 indoor handgun range at my house several years ago (pics on my Facebook page of the construction). Back wall is 3/8 steel, covered with 2 ballistic rubber to prevent lead splatter. Here is what I love about having a climate-controlled indoor gun range at my house: It is snowing to beat the band outside right now. Getting ready to go turn on the heater, turn on some AC/DC and 5 Finger Death Punch on the boom box, put a Dirty Bird zombie target on the wall, and blast him/it with some 9mm until he is fully dead.

Outstanding Tim. That sounds awesome. Like your taste in music too :)

I didn't have that option. So elected for an outdoor range. Wanted to be able to shoot rifles & handguns too. Built a backstop out of railroad ties with several tons of dirt behind it. Have a left or right handed shooting table/bench I made, just like the common ones seen at ranges. From the end of the table, to where the targets will hang, is exactly 50yds. I've already built but not installed, a handgun table, & bench that I'm gonna place off to the side, at somewhere between 7-10yds. I may even put another table/bench at 25yds, not sure yet.

In front of my backstop is gonna be a structure very similar to my archery backstop. Targets (2) are going to hang from it. Here's a pic of my archery backstop

Should be pretty cool when complete. I'll share some pics when it is....

Mike H Said: Frank,

Lemme get this straight.... you are accurate on the LONG trigger pull of a DA, and blew the easy pulls once youre in SA....

... but you like strikers?

I like 'consistency'. The switch from, DA to SA when TSHTF could have been a life changer. #2 shot was off 6" or so. A moment later, I was ready for #3. We're talking an unexpected event that was over in about 3 seconds. Training helps, but real life is always different and time has a different meaning at those moments. I always carried it DA, safety off, instead of SA, safety on.

Striker, SA only, DA only are the same for every pull and I'm good with that.

I carried a G26 with a Crimson Trace Laserguard for years, then recently switched to a G19 with Laserguard green laser. The green is visible in daylight.

I carry OWB at 2:00 in a Crossbreed. I carried IWB but found it uncomfy usually. I buy Duluth Trading long tail t-shirts that are 3" longer than normal so they conceal well. Just have company logos screenprinted on them and they look ok. Untucked Polo conceals ok when need to see a customer.

Although I try not to print, the law recently changed in texas so it is no longer a crime to print. It's bad tactics, but legal. My G19 sometimes leaves a bump in my shirt where the grip/butt protrudes, but unless you're really looking for it you can't tell it's not a cell phone.

Mike, I can tell you how to improve tht combat accuracy and pick up some really helpful additional training info for cheap. Go to the Trident Tactical Solutions website below and buy a Team Trident membership. It is Jason Pike, a friend and former Navy SEAL who I train with. My wife is taking his "Woman's Fun Day" carbine class (AR-15) this Saturday. Jason gives a lot of practical advice, and puts up "Team Trident" videos twice a week for drills you can run to improve your shooting. Some are simply dry fire drills, placing a penny on top of your slide, etc. In his basic handgun class (same concepts he does in the videos for those who can't attend) he guarantees that in 1 hour he can have you shooting groups 50% smaller, and thus far he has had 100% success rate with that.

Doesn't make sense to me. Never seen a striker that was a DA. Unless you're calling an internal hammer DA design a striker, and I don't think Glock makes any of those do they?

I'm in SA all the time. I like hammer guns for consistency with what I began shooting, so all my guns are hammer's, but I carry cocked and loaded, just need a thumb stroke during draw to release the safety.

My first many years ago was a Colt Govt Mod. .380 Stayed consistent with similar designs ever since. Beretta Mod 84 Cheetah stainless .380 Beretta Mod 92 FS stainless, with an extended ported barrel 9mm Beretta PX4 storm compact 9mm Colt Defender 9mm Colt Defender .45 S&W 745 ISPC Commemorative 45 (Suhweeet trigger on this) Taurus (can't think of model) .357 that I hunt with and a couple of .22's

G-26 and G-19 for me. Lou sometimes carries the 26. I had and really loved my 6906, but one day, I found that under stress, I really blew the second shot going from DA to SA. Practice went outt he window the day I had about a second to recognize the threat, draw while sidestepping because of people downrange. The practice that was good was hitting CM on the first shot. Switching to SA, I was off and wasted a round and a second going for the third. I didn't need it, but I was ready b then. DA or striker fire only for me now.

Agree on OC. Im personally not a fan. Most of the people I have seen in my area OC'n don't fit that profile though (gung ho). I've yet to ever see anyone OC a long gun either. I've seen some of the youtube vids of people doing it, & roll my eyes, as I too believe they only hurt the cause so to speak.

Colt Defender..!! Shwing..... nice! If I could pick up any .45 out there without concern for cost, it would be either the Defender, or Kimbers Ultra Raptor II. Both are gun porn to me.

Anita & I both carry wheel guns for EDC, in .357 I have a XD45 & a P89 I've had for over 20yrs but picked up the wheelie for the summer months. I wanted something to be able to carry in shorts & t-shirt without printing.

After sporting the smaller piece, I can't imagine trying to lug a full size .45 or even my 9mm in a CC situation. I have but, it's uncomfortable. I'd like to eventually get a compact .45 They're all fun to shoot though :) This spring/summer I hope to complete my personal range. I have a table up at 50yds, & plan on a pistol station at 7-10yds. Should be pretty cool when complete. Look forward to improving proficiency with it.

Not a fan of OC period. Wearing my NRA hat and patting the buldge in my shirt, I've told people in stores that they are doing more to harm the gun issue than help, mostly because they are just so gung ho about "Ain't nobody gonna tell me I can't carry my constitutionally protected gun as I walk down main street scaring the kiddies."

See it a LOT in Alabama when we work there.

Of course there was the day when my dad went to Canada to hunt about 45 years ago, walked onto the plane, handed the stewardess his rifle case and went to his seat.

Change hasn't been good, but we have public favor going our direction and blatant display just doesn't help promote the cause.

I've carried a Sig P938 for a while, and have had a Colt defender in 9mm. Just love the colt but also always wanted to carry a 45. Bought the defender 45 a few months ago. It's nice as I can practice cheap with the 9 and carry the 45. With an IWB at 4 oclock, it still conceals virtually as well as the Sig, but the grip is much more suited to my hand and acquisition and draw are much faster, smoother and on target faster than the small sig could ever be.

Have been struggling to succeed at 10-10-10 drills required by our school and church for security team/carry when using the Sig, but could always do it with the colt. And now the 45 is more accurate than the 9. I'm lovin' it. (10-10-10 = Ten shots, Ten yards, Ten seconds in an 8" circle) If you don't have a 10 shot clip, you lose a second for each shot, so a 7 rnd capacity cuts you to seven seconds. Watching truly skilled handgunners has been a humbling experience, and I am pretty good compared to the norm. Some people are just mind blowing.

Hoping that Beth will start carrying the Sig. We'll see.

Way to go, Tinner!

My wife carries a S&W Bodyguard .38 wheelgun, but I just got her a G42. Nice gun.

I almost never sell a gun but my gun safe is seriously running out of room and there is no room for another safe. So, I gotta make a couple hard decisions which 2 guns hafta go. Leaning toward my FAL clone in .308, or my slick little FN PS90. The PS90 is a totally bad little bullpup but the 5.7 ammo is hard to find and I rarely shoot it.

OC is probably coming to Texas but I don't see myself doing it. Too many tactical disadvantages, imo.

Awesome Frank. Those stats are hilarious. The anti's heads start exploding when you show them stats like that..

In my part of the woods, OC is somewhat common. I probably see someone OC'n about once every other month. However, LOTS of people CC.

I'll never forget when I picked up my CHP from the county clerks office, I was shocked how many permits were in the envelope she pulled mine out of. I said, wow... busy month..? She said, nope... about average :)

Coincidentally, not a lot of violent crime out this way...lol

Well, it's much calmer now. They started allowing more CCW and OC is more accepted. The thugs starting dying off like flies. Murder went from 170 a year to 32 last year. :) Wife loves her G42 and it goes everywhere. About 15 were people were killed by my shop.

Here's a pic of a thug that tried robbing me two years go. Those are 16cc nails sticking out of the sides of that club.

He came at me hollering for my money. I commanded he halt and only loosened my holster. He stopped and I said I'd drop him if he took one more step. I disarmed him and let him go. :) I hate the paperwork, etc. from shooting them. Sad thing is, I bet he forgets and tries it again some day. I had him at 21' that day. He'll never get closer to me than that if he does.

 I probably should have taken Mike and Lefty and given them a crack at him. I know where he hangs.

tinner666 Said: He almost got the chance when he came here. I took him through some of the roughest hoods around and forgot to show him the new bullet hole in my neighbors house.

Most are unaware just how rough Richmond is. Been that way a looong time too.
