In all honesty, the lack of interest in threads like this is a shining example of the apathy that is leading to this country losing its exceptionalism.
Just what in the hell are you willing to stand up and fight for if all you can muster is a yawn when your Second Amendment rights are under attack?
Pathetic.
OS, another of my favorite terms is Parabellum. I don't remember if it's Latin or Greek, but it essentially means: If you want peace, prepare for war.
That concept is rock solid, it applies to guns, and martial arts too. The guy least likely to have to fight, is the one most prepared to fight.
Roofguy, I have a friend that has that on his Motorcycle. It refers back to ancient Greece and the Spartans when confronted by an overwhelming force. They were given aan option of surrendering and having all the men killed and the women and children spared or fighting. Basically, it means "bring it on"
I find it hard to believe that advocates of free speech don't try and use the same "logic" Since all writing was done with pen and ink at the time, shouldn't computers and typewriters be outlawed too? Where do telephones or even telephones with cameras fit into the constitution?
If and when they come for the weapons, I am sure they will get the bullets first, and those will be coming at about 1500 feet per second!
Just for the record, the rifles in question were sporters used for target shooting, hunting, etc. that had scary add-ons for the 'tacticool' look. No different than adding a hood scoop, wings and spoilers on a Mustang. Oh, and painting flames on the fenders.
Patty, dozens of companies pulled out of exhibiting at the show, and with good reason. That it hurts your local economy is the point - that's why it works.
Pro-2A folks feel as though we're under attack and we use whatever methods we can conjure up to fight back. Obama is breaking the rules by circumventing congress on gun control, so now is not the time for us to be shy about fighting back.
What bugs me is that so many people don't grasp the uneven end game here. If our side wins, the worst thing that can happen is things continue on as before and once in awhile the same number of people might be killed in a Newtown-type shooting as are shot every 18 days in Chicago. But gun control inevitably leads to a total loss of gun ownership rights. History is full of examples.
I won't have my rights infringed by people who haven't bothered to take enough time to even know the basics, such as that a clip and a magazine aren't the same thing, or that an AR-15 is not an automatic weapon that can "spray" bullets.
If uneducated people try to take away our guns, out of frustration, all we can say is: Molon Labe.
Good morning, I think. Feb. 2nd was to be the beginning of the Outdoor Sportsman Show in Harrisburg, Pa one of the biggest held annually for decades. The sponsors of the show banned the display of automatic weapons. So the big boys of the NRA withdrew followed by Cabellas and others. This is not a pro or con opinion on gun control from me, it is an opinion on all that have an opinion and force it on others. Due to everyones cause to protect the 2nd amendment this show has been postponed at the cost of 80 million $$$$$$$$$$$ to a local industry that supports the show. This is my neighborhood, my local economy, how many other places are going to hurt because of this BS.
My point........does gun control rhetoric belong at your roofing convention.....NO Should you boycott the convention because of pushy agendas ....NO Support your convention...YES Many people have worked hard in preperation for this. Support your cause, be the roofer we know you can be. Thank you, I feel better already. PC
Terrible. There was a good deal on a high powered BB gun on a website today and I couldn't order it because I live in IL. Ugh
Yes, they sold the convention, and if Handley Wood is not an out-and-out union organization, they sure act like one from our past exhibiting experiences.
Secondly, and this will make more sense to conservatives than to liberals, the NRCA is out of Chicago. Yes, I said Chicago. See a trend there? A Chicago organization wants to come to Texas to preach to us about gun control.
They are bringing politics into the NRCA and it absolutely has no bearing on roofing issues and should not be even happening.
I see they sold the show to hanely wood who do nothing but put on shows so were being misrepresented by an industry that is not even part of roofing!
This is the link on thier page to the annoucment,go and state your postion! If no one speaks up this will appear as the roofing industry supports gun control!https://www.facebook.com/#!/RoofingExpo
I guess they wont have the Dewalt m-16d nail gun on exhibition. I'd post a picture but using three different browsers, it keeps throwing an error. Google Dewalt m16 if you haven't seen it.
Tim post the responce letter on thier facebook page, i let them know we would not be coming because of this on thier page
After the recent resounding and astounding OSHA victories, more and more of our Lobbyists, have seen the writing on the wall. If it was a football GAME, THE SCORE WOULD be Team OSHA 460- Team USA -0.
Time for them to get in the Sheople Line Tim ....(NAHB wasted no time at all) maybe apply for some government funding. It probably is more lucrative than membership dues.
NFIB, BBB, NRCA, Chamber of Commerce .......they are little more than ANOTHER TAX to pay while living a fantasy that some protection, or change might be possible.
Hi Tim:
Your email concerning Capt. Kelly and his ion as the keynote speaker at the IRE was forwarded to me.
I must say I think it’s pretty incredible (a) that we’d somehow be expected to know all of the political views of IRE speakers, (b) that you wouldn’t participate in the industry’s biggest event because you disagree with one speaker’s point of view on one subject and (c) that you would assume a trade show company, by hiring a speaker, necessarily agrees with all of his or her positions. For the record, the IRE is an event, not an organization, and doesn’t take positions on anything. And there are approximately 40 speakers at the event, so it’s almost humanly impossible for anyone to agree with all of the views of all of the speakers.
In past years, we have had Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush speak. I suspect you disagreed with President Reagan’s position on immigration, and with President Bush’s position on tax increases. Would you therefore have not attended the conventions when they spoke?
In any case, thanks for taking the time to share your views.

That's all well and good but as of 2 days ago your Facebook announcement headline included "Mark Kelly is launching gun control lobbying effort..." so it's evident that you did "know" this about the speaker.
Maybe IRE is using that energy to attract interest, but 90% of the roofing contractors I talk to had just the opposite reaction to it.
We're not talking about some relatively inconsequential roofing issue such as Energy Star. In case you hadn't noticed, our Second Amendment rights are under attack in this country. I'm not one of the radicals who thinks we will need to take up arms against a tyrannical government any time soon, but if we continue to ignore the trends, we will b e leaving a less-free country for our kids.
I probably should have let some time pass before I responded. I responded while attending the SHOT Show gun convention in Vegas, thus I had 2A on my mind when I read the IRE headline.

Is Kelly after nail guns or heat guns? Or maybe only 7 nails in a clip at a time? When they outlaw licensed roofers nail guns only the outlaw roofers will have guns.
RG, what you should do instead of boycot, is stand outside the door when he speaks, hand out fliers for your new organization (Roofers for Gunrights or whatever) and ask all who are for gunrights to boo Kelly for the first 5 seconds of his ovation, then switch to applauding him for his astro service. Record it and send it to Drudge.
