IRE announced that Mark Kelly will speak at the convention, and that is fine by me. But they also specifically mention his and Gabby' gun control agenda in the announcement. That is NOT ok.

Kold King will not consider exhibiting for this reason,

NRCA needs a better grasp of who their members are.

Mike H Said: Life Member of both. Have been for a long time. GOA is tops when it comes to keeping us up to date on legistlative action. NRA is face of the gun owner.

Gun owners that put so little value on their right to own one, who use petty issues as a front for thier reasons not to join, have a mentality that I am powerless to comprehend.

Ditto. I have been an NRA member for years; recently became a Life Member.

Glenn Beck is a little out there on a few issues but he has called future events accurately so frequently that I pay attention to him. I'm embarrassed to admit that, until Beck began talking about it, I never really considered that our rights are not granted by the Constitution, BOR, or the Supreme Court. They merely put natural God-given rights on parchment.

If you believe that those rights are endowed by our Creator and unalienable, then it follows that politicians or the Supreme Court cannot pass legislation or make rulings that take away those rights. That sounds radical, but it's really a simple concept and it gives me a little comfort to know that a swing in the SCOTUS to the left, cannot take away my RTKBA.

“The sacred rights of mankind,” Alexander Hamilton observed, “are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of divinity itself, and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”

I find that neither the NRCA nor the IRA represent my political views. I am a member of neither :(

Yes, the Irish Republican Army doesn't represent my views either. ;-)

On the other hand, I recently upgraded to Life Member of the NRA and we went to their Houston convention recently.

I got mad at the NRA a few years ago and bought membership in Gun Owners of America kind of as a protest. After awhile I realized that by badmouthing the NRA, what I was doing was making the good the enemy of the perfect.

The NRA is the 800 lb gorilla in the room that gets things done. Are they 100% with me on all issues? Nope. But they are the best chance we have of saving 2A. I like GOA and Larry Pratt, but they're so tiny as to be ineffective. We can't afford that right now. When gun rights are under attack, we need to salvage them before attempting perfection. If a guy is breaking into my house at 3am, I want him very dead...but my first priority isn't to make him dead. My first priority is to hide behind the bed and point my Glock 17 at the doorway while my wife does the same with the Mossberg 20 ga...our first priority is not to wander into the livingroom looking for the guy.

We gotta survive before we try to improve our position. The NRA is the best tool for that.

I guess, politics has gone through to influence this kind of gun ban law. Former Arizona State Representative Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, previous astronaut Mark Kelly, have launched a gun control initiative that seeks to take on the powerful gun lobby and challenge today's gun laws, which the couple believes are too lenient. Check more here.

Just what in the hell are you willing to stand up and fight for if all you can muster is a yawn when your Second Amendment rights are under attack?

Pathetic.

One thing I've learned over the last 10 years or so... you don't change people's mind over internet forums. At least not enough to justify the time effort. I am, however, one very proud NRA-Life member-Daddy because of the disertation my 14 year old daughter gave one of her teachers when the teacher said "I don't have a problem with people owning guns, but it's the crazies in the NRA that are causing the problem".

Seriously, I didn't know she listened so closely.

I did decide to forgo my company trip to San Antonio this year. I might also note that I surprised a couple months ago when I noticed that the RoofPAC Sporting Clays tourney was not on the schedule. I suspect there may be a link between the two.

I will have answers before renewing my NRCA membership.

Seriously, not to pretend to be something I am not, but Americans officially threw in the towel in the fall of 2008 (financial crisis) shortly after digging the deepest hole in the world: The invasion of Iraq and the "war" on terror. Both times the enemies of America got what they wanted and we waved our flags in adulation, almost pure approval (98%) and fake patriotism

Make a stand? Now ?

Oh you mean why did we give up all of our other freedoms but decide that NOW is the time to make a stand about ...Freedom...... or consumerism? Yawn is EXACTLY RIGHT

I also am not a member of the NRCA, but I am going to the show for the first time ever. What a debut! I am sure soneone will want me to join, and I am sure a "discussion" will ensue. Should be interesting. Hey, who else is going to be down there? It would be nice to put faces and names to pen names.

I'm not sure what you expected us all to do, RG. Should we all get one-legged ladders and storm the convention center like Santa Anna at the Alamo? I've been boycotting the NRCA since......forever. Should I join them so I can tell them I'm boycotting them?

Well, I've been too busy with letters and petitions to Senators, Congressman, Obumie, my Governor, and others to be standing here preaching to the choir. Here's a tidbit we should all send out. Our Governor is considering making schools safer for my grandkids,a nd all other kids. Did you know that 'lunatics' are smart enough to seek out soft targets for their devious plans? The best quote I ever heard was from two thugs outside my shop one day. "Naw man, let's go down the street! He shoots!"

'The Invisible Shield'

Well, I've seen that one plan is being considered in some schools and already in use in other schools. Believe it or not, some teachers are gun owners! Like us! Can you believe it? Well, some that are willing to undergo additional background checks and training with local or SPD and their SWAT teams. They are being allowed to CCW in school. They're not policing anything. They just teach but also learn what to do in case of a nut case. And it's not rocket science. Lock the doors, herd the kids into the nearest safe place, Get behind a barricade if possible and sit there between them and danger. If a nutcase was to come through the door, fire and stop the threat. They're just regular Joe's like the rest of us and may even have their own kids in the same school. It's truly a win-win by many standards. They're known as the ‘Invisible Shield’ and woe unto the lunatic that runs afoul of it. This is not more government of which we have plenty of, but common sense and costs nothing but the time for extra training. The NRA has offered to sponsor some or all of that.
