Is it just me or are we missing the boat not offering follow-up roof maintenance?

I know that when Sears called and asked me to buy an extended warranty on my first washing machine I told them that "if I needed to buy an insurance policy in case it broke, just come and pick the damn thing up". However, Roof Maintenance is an entirely different thing.

When we finish a job and stick the paperwork away in a file and forget about it, it’s like we are throwing away many opportunities. We have the opportunity to give our client an extension on their roof life while making extra cash when work is slow. Recontacting our existing customer base also keeps you in front of the building owner – that means referrals. What owner doesn’t have faith in a contractor that is still around in 5 years?

When you finish the job you could give them a brochure with a list of rules: They need to stay off their roof, if they get solar or new roof equipment they have to call YOU to make it watertight, if they get a roof addition they have to call YOU for the tie-in, etc.

You could call them 6 months before your workmanship warranty expires to sell them on whatever program you set up. You could do it a million different ways but if you are not doing SOMETHING part of your income is just floating right out the window. http://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/soapbox/
