I have been getting a large amount of requests for moss removal from shingles. We have tried the solution of trisodium phosphate, bleach and water but that just didn't work even with light brushing.
Today a customer told me about a product that he has heard good things about.
Of course the website promises miracle cleaning but I am a skeptic. Has anyone ever used this product?
This is more results from Woody's Advanced Testing Labs. The bottom of the fence has moss that varies, getting lighter going right to left. On Feb 18, I sprayed three fence boards with W and F and then skipped three across this picture. You can see that everywhere it was sprayed, it's less moss than where it wasn't. And the remaining moss has a tinge of red or orange, meaning it's going to die away.
This was the fence 2 days after it was sprayed.
How long does the treatment last ?.Before you have to redo it ?
My thought is it might be good to use as a maintenance program along with gutter cleaning,Roof check, etc.
Mike - I read everything on their website but you know how it is.... you just can't believe everything you read. The main reason I am/was skeptical is because it sounds too good to be true.
I should not have a problem convincing this customer to wait for results, after all, he waited long enough for the moss to grow.
We are not really trying to sell the service but for the first time I have had people asking for the moss to be removed. I guess it has a lot to do with the economy and people wanting to fix rather than replace. Trying to get more life out of what they have seems to be the path most people are taking right now.
Woody - I can see the difference and am quite impressed.
I am not familiar with the wet & forget product- but I have used a product called "Wash Safe Roof Wash"- it's active ingredient is Hydrogen peroxide- totally safe- you can run in through your dishwasher, pour it down the drain etc.,
safe on plants etc.
It worked very well, stephen
I use W & F and am a believer. It costs about double what I used before, Lilly/Miller Moss out for Roofs, but works far better. I'm testing it on my the back of my shop roof. The section on the right is Wet and Forget, the middle section is Lilly Miller and the left section is a bleach solution. The only place you can tell a difference is where the W & F meets Lilly/Miller. I'll try for a better picture when the light isn't so dappled.
Hey Terry, Go on to roof cleaning institute of America. They make you read alot before you can ask ?'s but the info is all there. They are a good batch of guys, been a member for awhile now but never got into the cleaning thing full throttle. Good luck. mw
