We are considering setting up to handle credit cards or taking payment at the jobsite. We typically bring service orders back to the shop and they are invoiced through the mail. We've had some people ask to pay with credit cards. Actually, some very large corporations give their local management authority to pay with C Cards to avoid being set up as vendors for less than $1,000.00 amounts (ie: typical quick repairs).
I've thought about getting one of those Cube things to use in my iPhone or iPad. Could also use to complete invoice and email to customer immediately.
Is anyone using this type of system? Advantage/Disadvantage(s)? Suggestions?
We have tried to keep from doing Credit Cards due to the fact that you could go unpaid if the customer doesn't pay their credit card provider. I've had a relative get stuck a few times so they quit taking them (retail environment). FWIW
I ran a company for years without accepting cards and then for years accepting the cards. Today I do not accept them. IMHO its a waste of money. Yes sometimes they will ask to use the card but if you say we don't accept them then they will write you a check and you will keep all the money. lol
I have had the Square for about 6 months.and have been asked to take credit cards about 10 times since then. But the Square is set up on my wife's (the boodeeper) cell phone, so I tell them I prefer a check, but can take the card later. All but two have given me a check, saving me about $600. So I think I'll still use it only as a last resort.
It also irks me that Washington state's high sales tax (8.4%) is something you have to pay 3% for in the transaction.
