Found this video clip on another forum where they were discussing the lack of respect for tradespeople. I just had to share this with the gang here at the coffee shop. It's long but worth the listen. Especially on a cold morning when I don't want to be out on a roof.

This is the site for all of the TED talks that the Mike Rowe talk is posted. Haven't had a chance to really check it out but I know there is some good stuff in here.
Boy what a great speech. I wish everyone would watch that. I have a new respect for that Mike guy.
Ironically, I took a picture the other day of my husband when he was covered with dirt and sweat and a little blood and he was so happy. Same thing, he is not happy unless he's dirty and tired. Then all is right with the world.
How do we translate that into some form of encouragement for young men to learn a trade. I have noticed that a majority of contractors are contractors because their father/family were. They saw the pride.
Be proud, learn a trade.
"OSHA? Ocean!!" (That was great.)
Matter of fact, I liked the whole link so well I listened to it twice.
"Anagnorisis and peripeteia"...bureaucrats don't usually understand any of that. They might think they know about Aristotle, but living life second-hand or in absentia as they do, they usually get cheated out of the genuine stuff that I find makes my life worth all the struggle.
Sit there with a pencil erasor pushed against your lips and issue edicts. Not a good way to pass the time whatsoever. And just think, I could have had a life like that if only I'd been just a little bit weaker.
Soft and weak or anagnorisis and peripeteia; which duo makes the world go round. Oh I wonder wonder who pa-doop, who... who wrote the book of love.
He said very well what most of us think, and all of us know. The clean people writing the rules are simply twisted, deranged and very very phucked up and dangerous.
