hello can someone show me how details can be done on metal roofs without counting on caulk? can someone install a metal roof (and by metal i mean galvalume or aluminum) without using a single piece of caulk or tape?

The picture I put above is 24 gauge Vertical seam. Most of the time You can get away with makeing things lap and fit together so that your not relying on calking. I see many roofs done and when they get to problem areas or transitions they just calk them. They will last quite a while but not as long as the metal. As for pipe jacks I don't do the rubber boots. You can shingle them in and lap the panels. I don't really like the way that looks though. I will see If I can find some pictures of flasings Ive done.

wow those are some really beautiful pics for reel. you guys do some amazing work! copperman they call that hand rolled down here. there's a huge demand for it too. i get one from time to time but i have a few bids out right now. i have for sure a few small cottages that are supposed to break ground in january. would you be interested in coming down here and working with me if i get some? email me if you're interested so we can stay in touch. tcr is that aluminum? what guage? thats the best looking metal roof i think ive ever seen. i have all the books on how to do things but the books say to use caulk too. i was wondering cause down here i have a roll form machine and i sell .032 englert aluminum as a 20yr roof. i just don't trust any caulks for 20yrs cause every few years they come out with a "new and improved" caulk of some sorts. i used solar seal 15yrs ago when i used to install fiberglass/asphalt shingles and by now it is cracked and seperating. i believe everyone judges caulk by how well it comes out of the tube and how well it works right now but i'm more concerned with seeing things at the age they claim to be able to function to. to me things are only as good as their weakest link. i'm too used to soldering to just caulk two pieces of metal together and call it a day. (like aluminum gutters for example). howabout a pipe flashing? i really don't like any of the options out there for aluminum roofs. if i'm giving someone a 20yr metal roof i wanna make sure it lasts 20yrs. i feel confident selling slate, clay, wood, copper, etc cause history shows me how long they will last and which techniques work da best but i'm just not confident reading labels and brochures to my customers yano. thanks for all the help guys

the devil is in the detail right. Some of the manufactures have installation booklets that have most of what you woul need for a basic roof

Some recent pix of one I did 8 years ago. I had to checl it out after a tree dropped some large limbs on it. I use gutter sealer in the flat-lock seams to seal the edges against rust. Same detail as tin or copper roofing. Box fold panel ends, etc. No biggie.

Here's one detail. works on any metal. Old school details metal is folded up not cut or caulked.
