There was some discussion in the past about a mesh that was placed on top of a solid deck before the felt was layed to help the shakes breath better. I can't seem to find it but am looking for the manufacture as my supplier can not find it.

Thanks in advance Michael>>>

We have used it a couple of times. I don't particularly care for it but it seems like a good idea. I have found that you need to put a drip edge metal up the gables so that the breather doesn't show. On shakes we would always put the felt on top so that you can weave the shingles into your felt properly.>>>

You put the felt beneath the cedar breather. The shingles and shake don't last as long as they used no matter what!>>>

Thanks copperman.

The shakes I wil be using are class B fire treated and I have found when layed on plywood deck as apposed to skip sheathing they don't last nearly as long. What don't you like about the cedar breather?>>>

it's called cedar breather. Don't care for it myself I'd rather use preasure treated shingles then you don't need the breather>>>
