I'm going down that road known as the ACA. I can say one good thing, the people on the phone are very nice.
1st thing I found out about getting a policy with "National HealthCare" is that Chicago and Indianapolis are not evidently not part of the USA. Neither is much of America outside of North West Indiana. Unless of course, I want to pay for it....
Best strategy I can think of is to keep your policy costs down low as possible and invest as much as you can into Insurance Company stock.
Looks like we will all have some sort of Health Insurance without much HealthCare in our futures
PatChap Said: Socialized medicine isnt evil. When I was 13, 20 years ago, my dad had a stroke. He was in the icu for two months, and the hospital for another six months. His bill was 0$. Anyone Care to estimate what this would cost without insurance in the states? We figure minimum $600k.He recovered very well, and the care he received was exceptional.
We pay more tax than you, and wait in longer lines for some surgery. If you goto the Er with something minor you will wait 3-5hrs minimum. A minor inconvenience since when you leave there is no multi thousand dollar bill.
This is not "socialized medicine". "Medicine" or "medical care" is barely remotely part of this. This is either fascism or communism, perhaps a blend of both as the "conservative" (LOL) RepublicanT party blends with the "liberal" (LOL) DemocraP party to create economic war on Americans.
Might as well. The rest of the world is tired of our schtick
It all seems to be going to plan! My Agent called today and said that the Ins. Co. sez I am not "enrolled". Anthem, same Ins. Co. I've had like FOREVER.
Of course of course Mr. Agent. I thought that I had enrolled on the telephone over the course of about 7 hrs., including Hold time I thought that they cashed the check I sent them. In fact they did. $400 over premium cost. They have been bombarding me w/ texts, e-mails and letters saying "Welcome"
How was I to know I was not enrolled?
Well now that I dig into a letter they sent me amongst all of this, they still need me to prove citizenship and.....the income of my 7 yr. old son. They spell his name "Samual" instead "Samuel".
Yes it is all going to plan. Speaking of plans,....whose retirement plan are we contributing to here anyway? Obama's or Rick Scott's?
twill59 Said: We already have Socialism in the USA.A U.S. Treasury decision back in the 1940's sent us down this present insurance road to oblivion. At that time, they decided that company provided health insurance coverage was not "income" to the recipient. Instead, health insurance costs could be written off as a business expense. Only recently have they allowed the self employed to do this.
The result is that we no longer have health insurance, but instead pre-paid health care. And that is very expensive besides the fact that it doesn't work well. You either use it or lose it. You used to be able to buy inexpensive major medical insurance.
PatChap Said: Anyone Care to estimate what this would cost without insurance in the states? We figure minimum $600k.
That is the problem. No one knows the true cost of health care. What the hospital bills is not what the insurance pays. What we do know is that the entire hospital/ pharmaceutical/ insurance establishment will profit or there ain't going to be any. Whether that is paid for by govt or just subsidized by govt, the costs settle on the backs of the working people. There is no such thing as free anything.
clover83 Said: Most people who make over $1 million a year should scrutinize themselves and ask if they are really working for it.That is so funny...no one who makes $1 million a year-other than a few athletes and actors- can say they "worked" for it. The essence of capitalism is to get others to do the work and/or get your capital to work for you. "I don't work for my money; my money works for me".
seen-it-all Said:All I did was suggest that she make a claim. I did nothing else. My neighbor bought the house 8 yrs. ago. She has paid over $8K in premiums during that period. For $10 more per month, she could have recovered depreciation. (That is why I said it was a cut-rate policy) The adjuster estimated replacement costs at over $6K and aged the roofed at 12 yrs. She got a settlement for $3200 and promptly spent it on other debts. She then hires a hack to slap on crap and her roof ceiling over her entire house will probably be falling down in a few years. She then can make another claim, blame a storm and get another hack to mess up her house even more. (This is why I call it the decline of a neighborhood)You seemed to do a pretty good job of getting your neighbour to collect some $3200 on a 25 year old roof.
Personally, I think the system is nothing but a racket that has ruined the integrity of the roofing trade. It is great business for the charlatans and hucksters, but anyone who cares about workmanship and honor, little of that exists anymore-if it ever did. The roof I installed next door, lasted 25 years-5 years past its expected life. Over that same period, there are roofs in the neighborhood that have been replaced 3 times -all paid by insurance. I have lived here 34 years and have not experience a truly damaging storm. Dime sized hail is the most I have seen around here, yet storm claims have been paid left and right. I still have the same roof I installed when I first bought my house. The system is broken. I have seen perfectly good roofs torn off and claims paid where there was no damage. The stormers come in and ruin a neighborhood with shoddy work. I have lost jobs because I would not fraudulently cover deductibles. I have lost jobs because the home owner would not wait. The frenzy causes a false urgency.
We already have Socialism in the USA.
EXTREME Over the top Socialism that would embarrass any Communist in it's extremity.
The problem is, that it is reserved for such a small portion of the population.....These people will fight tooth and nail to exclude others. One of their propaganda strategies is to espouse the evils of socialism over and over, until it sticks.
Meanwhile Congress passes another multi $billion bailout for them (see last weeks budget).
Oh yes we do indeed have EXTREME Socialism. Lenin and Marx would piss thier pants with envy
That's nice PatChap. I sliced two tendons in my hand last year on the job. I'm exluded from work comp so my health insurance kicked in. That cost me $3000 and my premium went up a few bucks.
Socialized medicine in the states is risky. We need to tell most of the doctors to take a pay cut. Ok more than just doctors. Most people who make over $1 million a year should scrutinize themselves and ask if they are really working for it.

twill59 Said: Best strategy I can think of is to keep your policy costs down low as possible and invest as much as you can into Insurance Company stock.Ain't capitalism great? You gotta own the thing that owns the thing. One thing worse than the health insurance racket is of course the home insurance racket. Insurance companies keep raising deductibles in a failed attempt to reduce claims yet all that does is encourage fraud. What we have now is pre-paid health care/pre-paid storm claims. You either use it or loose it. Insurance can only cover catastrophic losses. It can not cover wear and tear although we try to force it into that role.
Obamacare is the 1st step toward their goal of single-payer socialized medicine. Boiled down further it means: The paying masses get far worse insurance coverage for far higher premiums and deductibles.
Take it from someone who had 20 surgeries in the US, and 3 surgeries in Toronto under their socialized medicine system, you do NOT want what Obama has planned for us.
