Everyone should go see this blockbuster #1 rated movie about Navy SEAL, Marcus Luttrell. His book is the best book I ever read and I became a quick fan. We donated a filing cabinet and paper when they opened the Lone Survivor Foundation offices in Houston last year.
I read American Sniper first and really admired Chris Kyle. Exactly 365 days ago Tuesday we went to SHOT Show in Vegas hoping to meet him, and got within 2' but missed the chance. Twelve days later he was murdered. Going to SHOT again Tuesday and I'm sure it will be a little somber with everyone there knowing that Mr. Kyle was there just a year ago and died shortly after going home.
I have become a huge fan of the SEALs. In February I go get some handgun training from one of them in West Texas. Looking forward to it.
Checking in at Angels 350 enroute to SHOT. Digging Southwest's new wifi.
I've been reading the FB comments of those spec ops guys who're already in Vegas for SHOT Show. Those guys sure are high speed low drag. lol One big nonstop party for them. One of them got into a bit of an altercation with a Russian getting off the plane from LAX in Vegas. Got reprimanded by the stewardess for calling him Ivan. lol
We get in this afternoon but too old and sore for that fast life these days.
Luttrell says it's pretty true to what happened, with a few minor Hollywoodations. :-)
It was said that Luttrell met the director and the actors in a meeting after shooting, and just before he left town, and told them: If you make my buddies look bad in this movie, I'll come back and kill every one of you. :-)
Enjoy! I like fact based movies :)
I never really knew what a SEAL was, or really much about the other spec ops guys either, except for Chuck Norris' portrayal of Delta.
I always wondered if I could have been Delta, Green Beret, or a SEAL. My theory was, hey I was always a fast runner, set the school record for pushups, always coordinated and athletic, strong swimmer, not afraid to fight if the need arose. But after reading American Sniper, Lone Survivor, and No Easy Day, I realize that I was never of their pedigree. They "operate" at a whole 'nother level than what I was ever capable of.
Still, it would have been fun to try.
Gonna go see the movie this afternoon, and proudly wear my Chris Kyle Frog ballcap...to my wife's embarrassment. :-)
