A tale of 2 leads:

Leo wanted his roof done. "Just do it Tommer. I'll pay you when it's done" "Well Leo, I'll write an estimate at least for you."

The 2nd Guy said he had 6 estimates and was looking for the "best deal".

So anyway, we are presently doing Leo's roof. Leo's hanging with the neighbor Dudes, driving his tractor and loving life.

The other guy? I don't know. Hangin' w/ roofers and hagglin' price? Sounds like a lot of confusion

I don't think I really care B)

OLE Willie

I went to bid on one last week where the h/o said that I will be his 5th estimate.

When I heard that, my eyes rolled back into my head and I nearly lost consciousness for a minute there.

Upon rebounding from the near miss, I just decided to follow through with the invitation to bid and give it all I have one more time.

After talking farther with the man, it became apparent that this was an unusual case where even though he was on the 5th bid, still he was not price shopping.

I told him we would not be the cheapest bid but most likely the highest in quality. He said "you get what you pay for".

So basically my desire to even go there was stripped away but then put right back. lol

I left his house with the signed contract and a major ego problem.

There was a time when I took every lost job personally. Now I don't. Is that what you mean? There were times when I didn't care and thought I should. Now there are times when I do care and think I shouldn't. Is that part of it? The bad thing about ageing is watching our physical powers diminish and seeing our youthful looks evaporate. "Whoa!" ( Barishnikov even called himself 'the incredible shrinking man.') The good thing about ageing is seeing how the world fits better and better, each to each, and all to all. We blend more and more into something bigger and bigger and after years of thrashing around we finally get to watch the mirror expand. The guy thinks he's doing his homework, working the system, and sticking his line in the water again and again, hoping for the big one. The cheapest of the cheapest bids is definitely going to be one of the biggies. Once he hooks it and reels it in, he's in for the real treat; he gets to put it in the pan (with a lil shortnin bread) and eat it. rotfl. bon appetit.
