I love maintenance programs... a lot easier to sell in Arizona than here in Dallas though....

I didnt get to sell a new roof but looks like I got a nice maintenance program out of it.

A maintenance program is a good foot in the door with a customer, helps to ensure that any future roof work they need will be yours for the taking, it takes them off the street so to say

Great stories! Here's one from today... An "Aquaponic Cesspool". The owner had no idea... I didn't get to sell a new roof but looks like I got a nice maintenance program out of it.

Last summer we did a 3 day repair to bring a roof up to snuff as a condition-of-sale. It was a chalet style house on a hill at the mouth of the Columbia River gorge. The owner of the house was in Costa Rica and there was an old biker-looking dude there as a caretaker until the house closed.

There was a metal shop, maybe 40X50 and a strange skinny 12X40 building up next to the house. It was lablike and had lots of plumbing that was obviously not up to code.

The old biker dude tried to get us to have a beer with him at lunch while we worked there and we declined. Finally, when we finished, I agreed to have a drink with him. (Me 1, him 5) and the guy opened up. The owner had trusted him to run his operation because he was an alchoholic and wouldn't mess with the product. He told me the owner had called him the day before and wanted to know some information on a Smith-Barney statement so he opened it and the owner's balance was $2.3 million. Then the guy mentioned that the owner had at least 3 other brokerage accounts, but he had no idea how much was in them.

I wouldn't recognize it, but if you say so, OK.

I know we found a serious pot farm on a steel plant years ago. Engineer made sure the whole work force knew the roof job was starting on XXX, then set up a sting at night to see who showed up for the harvest in order to beat the roofers to the crop.

Someone on maintenance is all I can remember. I guess this was the one leak that he failed to report for many years.

Too funny Chuck. All kidding aside you should see some of the things I find growing where water continually flows and the sun is out most of the time.

Last week I disturbed a "homeless-gentlemen" who had a cot and a BBQ on this huge flat roof... not to mention drug "sundries". He was glad to know I wasn't a cop and going to roust him off the roof. Just took my pictures and moved on... he declined to be in them.
