How's everyone's year going?

It's been pretty quiet around here. I'm figuring everybody is busy. (Or we've talked about every roofing subject under the sun.) It's that time of year where we get a lot of calls from people who finally got around to calling to get their roof done before winter. Happens every year in September. It's been a good year again. Phone calls are way down from last year but we're on track for another record year in sales. Running 8 guys. Wish I could find another good shingler. How's it going where you are?

Metro brown Clover. I like it!

The brown roof I used my roofer's buggy, which raises 11' from where it's at, and a 10' step ladder on top of it. I was out in the middle of nowhere and nobody was home. It was pretty exhilarating...and stupid.

The crazy house with the lake behind it had a guest house that was slightly uphill from it that worked perfect for a good shot.

I *really* want a drone. Hopefully next year.

Yeah, just got 1 and 1/3 truckload of Gaco S-20 in. Got a free Graco X70 with it. 'Bout an $8,000 pump.

Scary high psi required to spray silicones. 6,000 psi plus, injection injury stuff.

You've been hitting the silicone hard this year huh?

Oh and here is another memorable one for us. I bid the job for metal valleys like he asked, and he was to supply materials. When I got there he had that cheap termite shield to go under the I&W. Oh well.

8400 sq. ft. repairs over this 190,000 sq. ft. facility we will be foaming in the spring.

Customer wanted foam and silicone over high voltage electrical rooms to get them through the winter. Waterstop cuts to the deck were made and foamed to prevent water from other areas of the roof from running under our patches. Edges were primed with a wide margin for foam tie-in next spring, as nothing bonds to silicone except more silicone.

Customer told us "you don't need to worry about such straight lines since you will be foaming the whole thing next spring," but that's how we roll. Besides, what better way to let the owner know that he doesn't want any other roofer up there.

This thread needs more pics. Here are a couple of our more interesting jobs that I snapped pictures of.

Nope, to insure good adhesion we pre-soak with Simple Green, pressure wash at 3500 psi, prime with 2-component epoxy primer, repair any delaminations and penetrations with butter-grade silicone and silicone seam seal, then 2 gallons per SQR 96% solids silicone. It's a heckuva spec, will likely last longer than the TPO did, which isn't very long.

Do you use a "tack coat"as a primer before you spray the silicone? Nice project to finish the year!

Landed this nice little 314,000 sq. ft. SPF and silicone job heading into winter. Should wrap it up before the snow blows.

350 SQRS scarf foam, refoam, acrylic, 2764 SQRS power wash, repairs, and silicone coating over TPO.

We haven't had the normal wind storms and flood type rains much this year. Started out slow in Jan and Feb as usual but picked up from March until now. Getting slow again now though. I'm kind of like MikeNZ, not trying to be covered up all the time. I just need enough work to make a good living. Gave up on getting super rich years ago. ;)

Things are pretty good. The year started so slow that I was just about to resort to door knocking. Last month I was turning down lower quality leads frequently.

I just bid the biggest project in our history, and another neat higher profile project that I'd really like to add to our portfolio. Pretty pumped about both, trying not to think about them much.

As far as shinglers go, I got rid of my biggest problem this year. He could have been great, and I put up with his crap for years, but he chose to quit the day I'd had enough. I hired an experienced 24 year old who follows directions very well, works without drama, has a license, and thanks me for the job even though he has a bachelors degree. I still feel like he is an undercover agent for some misguided government program.

Winter's a comin'. Hope you all have got your firewood cut and stacked. I'm sure to run out by the middle of January.

Just about worked through our back log, we were 3 months out at one point. I put the brakes on quoting just to keep the stress on this old man under control a little.

Looks like our college kids are hanging with us through the fall, so I need to drum up some projects . . . not a problem as there are customers waiting for us . . . just need the numbers put together for them.

Back at it after traveling to Everett, WA for a family gathering on Puget Sound and then swinging by Phoenx, AZ to visit family there on the way back. Oh, and the crew tackled and successfully completed a project while I was absent . . . a first as I admit to being a control nut.

Phone is ringing, crew is working, . . . it's all good.
