How Steep is Steep?

Now I only scoped these roofs at an apartment complex for an insurance claim, test squares were tricky, if not scary. I am sure the roofing contractor who ended up with the project got a pretty penny... Even Xactimate pricing code was WTF BIG$$$$

Truth is Mr & Mrs. Homeowner, you could prolly get 30 contractors in here who would call this hail damage.

And yes, I would not be surprised if you got a new roof for the missing shingle tabs :laugh:

All the way up... "Sorry Mr. & Mrs. Homeowner, no hail damage and only a few shingle tabs are missing- repair is less than deductible."

This one's about as steep as I go. 10 on 12. lol

I tried my best to get out of doing it. The going rate for one of these around here is under $300 sq. so I bid it at $550 sq. That did not deter the client so I had to Get-R-Done!

I only did the part you see felted in. Roofed it from the top down and did the bottoms off a ladder. That's my sisters boy in the pic. 24 yrs old. He was a lot of help on this one.

As long as you can do it in your time frame woody, you'll never get too old..........will ya? :woohoo:

I've got a project right now that is 10/12 and that's as steep as ever want to be between now and retirement. It's the first new house I've done in at least two years, just wanted to see if I could still do one.

Only had to climb and inspect.. wouldn't have wanted to install!

We thought this was too steep until we started working on it. Walking out to the rake tip of each ridge like a tight rope walker was fun. We only hung one roof jack and just climbed it after that. Not much fear of falling as we found out. Even your feet wedged into place before reaching the valley! :woohoo: No safety lines, scaffold or anything else. Was fun until one lightening bolt got both of us. Guy on the ground was watching when it happened. I was walking out onto one ridge, my brother was headed the other way and we both had 10' pieces of copper ridge cap in our hands. Just burnt hair and deaf for an hour.

This one wasn't too steep.

Here's a view from my office. It's one I didn't know I had showing the view below where I had to do a valley in harness and couldn't use a ladder below me.

Sometimes, a harness is the only way to do it. Fence, tree, AC, and other stuff kept me from using a ladder here.

Since the recent fall and damage to my shoulder, I'm not too sure how well I can continue working on these easy ones.

That pool house roof cost's more than my house! Nice work though! Can you post a closer up pic of those gutters?

This was a tough job. There was only about a 2foot ridge at the peak so chicken ladders were prety much useless.

"A bit more slippery" would suffice B)

Copperman.... True Craftsmanship! I think that copper is a bit more "slipperier"- (if that's even a word) than shingles!
