How much should I be paying for labor?

Fred

I have been doing home improvement for 35 years, because of health reasons I have to stop doing manual labor and hire people. I can still do small roof repairs, but for replacement I am going to need some help. Many years ago I used some subcontractors, but I was never happy with their work. I was thinking of using day laborers and supervise them. The Big question I have is how much should I be paying day labors, and how much should I be paying subcontractors?

Twil, you forgot to add that it must be paid in cash.

Well Fred when shingles were $40 per sq. work was relatively easy to get @ $300 per sq. Now that shingles are $80, most guys are charging $250. I am sure with the new OSHA regs and add'l cost, we can push down to $220.

Try the Roofing contractor equation:: Cost of living divided by 2. Then deduct $5 per hr. Then divide by 2 again. But...Add in: Cut every corner possible. Do absolute chit work. Then cut wages by 50% again.

Continue until bottom becomes visible.
