What is a fair amount of compensation for a Sales Manager in a startup business? Salary + Commission?

Flat rate commission with salary against future earnings for slow times for a guy who's earned you good money.

Oh well there you go, increase prices to make more commission. Sounds like a winning formula.....sellin much?

Our salesmen (me) worked on par. If the going rate was $100/SQR and I could get $120/SQR, I goy my usual 10% + 1/2 of the amount above par, or $5/SQR. It works.

Give him your per Sq price, and if he can up sell the job, the difference is his. Give him %8 of total job.

I would let him ask for what he's "worth". Once he names a number have him prove he's worth that number by offering up results he's had at other companies. Then go from there.....

IMO Start with a salary and if the person is good, commission is deserved. PC
