Since the hail storms a few weeks ago, I have talked to over 100 homeowners that are going with companies covering deductibles! Some of these are 7 or 8 grand!
So how can they still buy quality materials and supply decent labor? I must be missing something other than the fact that it's against the law in Texas!
I have an article here:[http://www.texasroofandfence.com/consumer-education-101/insurance-laws.html]
This is straight from the Texas Department of Insurance.
I know most of the insurance companies are putting FIU's in place. (Fraud Investigation Units)but for now we are fighting this game daily.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I disagree. Government regulations favor those who aren't inconvenienced by them. The same as with gun control - oppressive gun regulations hamper the law-biding citizens because the crooks ignore the laws.

As for licensing vs. paying someone's deductables...Nothing, (directly)...However, the environment, (no-lic required), tends to set the stage for such unscrupulous behaviors....

I give. I tried and tried to solve the riddle of what deductibles have to do with licensing, to no avail.
We don't cover deductibles for one and ONLY one reason: it is illegal. Period.
There is nothing inherently right or ethically superior about not covering them. The law against it was created by insurance company lobbyists as a means of enhancing their margins. Period!
In a true free market, competitors and property owners get together and decide how much will be charged, and the insurance company should have no place in that process beyond paying the going rate.
Tom, you've been brainwashed to think that the government's job is to take care of you. When you finally figure out that your successes is entirely up to you, you might set the world on fire.
This is what you have in a no-license environment....Don't complain if your against licensing....whats' the saying? "You made your bed...."
One of the reasons that we pulled out of Texas in 2008. The Texas Department of Insurance sucks as far as I'm concerned, they tout a building code, I wouldn't use that code to do a dog house.
They have 10,000 ways of getting around ther deductible. Some of them give away a large flat screen TV with each roof.
Better to find your own angle such as getting your costs way down - of course there aren't many ways to do that with shingles. That's 1 reason we don't do shingles.
you can bet thier burning up the seconds and cutting corners, plus theres no money roofing in Texas!
I had no idea Texas had this in place and it should be a good tool for you local boys. Anything to chase out the storm chasers. You still have to be the first one in as the first one in probably closes 80%. If you're in first you should be able to wave that notice like a flag. Your State Roofing Asscociation should be running tv and radio ads stating the same thing. If they are strong enough, a bunch of you locals should band together and pool your money and run your own ads. That's what Robert's did in 2009 as far as advertising against storm chasers and if I remember correctly I think on his flyers he stated he would pay the deductible. I wonder How does the auto window guys get away with it?
