I'm not much of a spectator sport fan. I can sit and watch NASCAR, but not football, basketball, and baseball puts me right to Zzzzzzz.

I was a Bruce Lee fan as a kid, so naturally I had to own a karate school one day. Liked airplanes, had to become a pilot. Etc.

So when guns replaced the martial arts for me, I had to build my indoor range and try to become good at it. I have a long way to go, but all modesty aside, I bet I'm one of the best 1-legged, 1-eyed, damaged right arm shooters there is. :-)

As I've mentioned, I've been training with a Navy SEAL. I figure: who better to take me to the next level than a SEAL! Last week I also began training with a "private contractor" for the government. Real black helicopter stuff. He came to my range and had me run a couple mags of 9mm from 15', then 20'. He then turned to me and said "I'm wasting your money, you shoot as good as I do."

He was joking I'm sure, but it felt cool just the same.

What do you do for fun when you're not roofing?

I do some gardening (beat back the jungle in this climate).

Grandkids.

Most Sunday mornings I paddle 5-7 miles in a kayak, usually exploring new things, but I'm running out and having to repeat.

If I hear an old song I liked, I'll work up an arrangement on my keyboard, layer on three or four tracks and by then be sick of the song and not play again for weeks until I hear another song I like. My brother lives 700 miles away and plays guitars. He makes cd's, sends them to me and I add more instruments to his tracks. I just recently added a piano and breaking-glass sounds to his track of Honkytonk Women by the Stones.

I like try to get pictures of wildlife, usually while exercising the dog. I've got chase scenes of her going for coyotes and deer. Lately all I seem to get is frogs and turtles.

I just consider these things just things I do and not really hobbies. I did start building a model of the Chrysler building out of popsicle sticks about 3 years ago. I'm about 75% done with it.

I shoot. Pistol and shotgun. I hunt. Mostly with bow for big whitetails. I ride. Currently a Harley Rocker-C I cook. Like working on something till I think I perfected it, then quit and move on. I take pictures. Spend more time on that than anything else here recently. Just shot my first wedding Saturday. I get bored pretty easily. These items are things that have stood the test of time.

I roof sometimes, as a hobby occasionally, but it was never intentional.

If someone asks "How can a roof cost that much"? I smile and say "Because I have three hobbies I really enjoy, and this supports all three". Got that line from my dad.

GSD, I give good natured jabs to my MMA friends by telling them: With nothing more that a $450 Glock and virtually no training, a 145 lb. nerd who is a teller at the bank could defeat Anderson Silva, Frank Mir, Jr. Dos Santos, Fedor Emelianenko, and Jon Jones all at the same time, and have 12 rounds left in the mag for any other comers. :-)

I like working with wood too, OS, but I can't spare any fingers these days.

I've always been the oddball. As a teen, when all the guys my age were riding their 20" Schwinns, I rode a unicycle. They got into gold later in life, I got into karate. The beaten path never interested me much.

I like to work with wood in the shop and make "things" One other thing I just started was to sing in a barber shop quartet organization. That is the neatest sound to be associated with. About 25 guys in the group, and 2 quartets. It will be a year before I feel comfortable I am sure, if I am good enough to learn and carry the tunes, but it is a hoot! For any one that likes to "sing" in the shower or along with the songs on the radio, it is a humbling experience to listen to people that can read music and know it. It has been a long time desire to be able to get on stage and sing, and I guess that before you can do that, you have to able to sing in a group. Lots of work, but lots of rewards too.
