I was heading home today and saw this guy thumbing it. Opposite direction. I turned around and picked him up took him to town 3 miles maybe. I know most will think me nuts, but I did alot of hitchin back in the '70s, Reminicent maybe. Florida to NY, Nothern Ontario to NY, and other places. It just felt right. I don't live my life scared. Have any of you done same?
Yeah, you can do that if you want, and it may help or it may not. She was bold and she was strong but it didn't help her. She didn't survive the experience and I am not going to dwell on the details because even though it has been a lot of years it would still get to me just writing down here what happened to her. I'm not suggesting that we accept living in fear and of course a woman hitch hiking alone is not the same as a woman picking up a lone hitch hiker. But it still comes to the same point. Bad idea. Since I freely admit your sentiments are worthy, I applaud you for that and suggest you find some other avenue to exercise them. Seriously.
I know I'll do it again. It is rare today. I'll just let them know I'm carrying , don't mess with me and my 22. PC
ya just gotta believe. your my kinda gal. I never leave them walkin. I was on parole when andrew hit.my brother sent me some money to buy A truck to come from NC to miami. wasn't supposed to leave the state, yet for those that remember, their was a big recession in the const. industry so I had to live. I felt that, with 4 years clean,on parole,A G/F and nothing else I had to run the dice. I had to come back every 2 weeks for the parole officers visit. I would always pick up hitchhikers.man, the lives, the stories, hardship and heart ache. I was on the game,I would tell them that if they tried anything I would run the truck off the road and kill us both. it got the biggest laugh every time but one. that feller,he looked at me and told me I was crazy and to let him out at the next exit. it was about 4 mos later, headed north this time, just pulled out of the cheapo stations on the second Ga exit. and there he was,it was cold that night,A slight drizzle.the 'ol boy baled up in the truck, looked at me I grinned,I'd remembered him,he still had his ukalalie.I told him that if he tried anything,I'd run the truck up to a hundred and kill us both. well, he looked at me cocked sideways and asked me what kind of music I was partial to. he rode with me all the way to Wilmington NC.I took him downtown to the shelter, gave him 20 bucks. he looked at me and asked me what my name was,I go by plain 'ol W,he then told me I needed to get that song the Ride by DAC.
OMG egg, did she become a victim or a victory? I know it is a scarey thing. This turned out good.I told my daughter today, she was pissed. She has never done it. I travelled many a mile with Truckers, they can't do that today. I never had a bad experience, I guess I can only consider myself lucky.
Wouldn't know where to start. Hitched a lot in my day, but that was a LONG time ago. Used to hitch to class during a couple of college years. Hurt my grades when I failed to get a timely lift. No matter; graduated anyway. Used to take people as much as thirty miles out of my way on occasion just to pay the universe back. Hitched from D.C. to Ca. in 3 1/2 days, 3 1/2 dollars, and 55 rides. Things turned in the seventies. My wife's best friend hitched until she got picked up by Ted Bundy. I recommend you not do it again.
