Hit water pipe

Morning all,

We're recent newcomer to post on forum, readers for awhile though.  Recently, we inadvertently hit a water pipe in house built in mid 1980's in Texas.  A 1/2" copper water line was next to roof decking with less than 1/4" clearance so our standard roofing coil nails penetrated pipe.  Homeowners weren't  home at time; ensuing water leak caused damages inside the home.  There was no access to attic and inspect this particular pipe prior to work as there are vaulted ceilings in area along with limited access.   We weren't given opportunity to make repairs ourselves, limiting expense, etc.  We did mitigate damages immediately ourselves by cleaning up the area when called.  Suggestions for "settlement" with homeowner's insurance carrier would be appreciated.  Yes, we have GL ins.   There are limited building codes in Texas which may have precluded plumbing pipes being installed so close by original plumber/ builder, unfortunately.  Thanks to all that have helped in Florida & Texas during this storm season.  Tom
